I want too pull 10000 lb. Toy Hauler with 23 F-150 and 4 inch BDS Lift LOL

Anyone have any real world experience with this setup?

I have a 23 F150, it has a 4 inch BDS suspension lift which includes the Fox shocks. I also added a super spring.
I'm running 20 inch wheels with 35 1250 tires. 5.0 400 hp 410 torque.

I'm pulling a Heartland Fuel 305 Toy hauler.

So the hitch weight is 1350 lbs. The trailer weighs 8620 lbs. I'll add app 2000 lbs. for the side by side another 800 in cargo.

I've read all the numbers with load capacity, this and that. SO I think I understand the factory specs etc. Probably not!!

Now the super spring deleted 10% of the 13500 lbs. of capacity, so now at 12500, taking away the 1350 hitch weight, leaving 11300 difference.. I think this is right, if not please lmk

I'll use a drop hitch to level out the trailer with a WDS of 10 to 14000 lbs.

Has anyone run this setup and if so how did it handle.

I'm pulling from Atlanta Ga to Great Falls MT come supper.

Saying all this and minus all the number guides etc, the question here is who has pulled this weight with this setup. That's my real question.


Any help would be appreciated.

Well. I just towed my travel trailer from Michigan to Los Angeles. It’s about 7k with 1000lbs tongue weight. Overall truck did good. My trans did get pretty warm at times although still in the green but I’d keep an eye on it. With all that lift stuff you got you’re definitely going to be stressing the truck quite a bit. Mine is completely stock. No level or anything. Overall mpg was 6.9 at 60-65mph. I locked out 9 and 10th gear. But the tongue weight on yours is quite heavy. Remember that weight goes against your payload which is everything in the truck including people etc. good luck. Keep us posted on how it tows etc.

You’re going to want a 10R140 pulling that trailer. The 10R80 will be getting HOT with that weight coupled with that wind resistance. You’d be fine pulling a 10,000 pound skid steer or something, but with that aero it’s very hard on the truck.

I would be nervous about the wind resistance, the weight, and the handling. The big issues are heat (since the transmission is water cooled, engine and tranny are in the same boat) and sway. Driving long distance during summer with unavoidable elevation increases at higher elevation is a near perfect storm. If you're willing to cruise at 60 and understand that a long stretch of elevation or headwind may require you to pull over, you might be okay in this regard. I would strongly recommend an upgrade to the biggest radiator you can find like the Mishimoto drop in unit. If you can legally install high flow cats and wrap the exhaust near the transmission, that would help as well.

With regard to handling, the most important towing upgrade that you can make it to remove the lift kit. A lifted 1/2-ton pulling a 30' toy hauler at the absolute limit of a stock truck's capability in windy conditions is the caricature of the guy who ends up in the ditch. My advice is: don't be that guy.

Overheating will at worst kill your engine and transmission. Flipping over could kill you and your family.

This is a horrible idea. You say you understand the factory specs, but the fact you are even thinking of putting that trailer behind a 1/2 Ton shows you don't understand as much as you think you do.

You well into 3/4 Ton territory w/ this setup. Go buy a Gas F250. It will be a much better experience.

I'm thankful to say I do not. Lots of towing experience but not anything like you describe with an F150, by choice.

Just FYI, from the 2023 RV & Trailer Towing Guide, this is the aerodynamic drag factor consideration ...

(trailer frontal area is [ground to roof high-point] x [trailer width])

Per Heartland specs for your Fuel F-305 that's [12.83'] x [8'] = 103 sq. ft.

That's 171% of the recommended max for your truck.

You may be mixing up towing capacity (max is 13900 lbs if u have max tow) and payload. Consider looking at the door sticker to see what your payload is. Your setup would be much closer to a hitch wt of 1500 lbs (13% of total wt) vs whatever your payload limit is. Recall that the payload doesn't include passenger, cargo or any mods you have done.

IMHO, the length, overall weight and payload of what you are proposing appear to be maxing out what a f150 is capable of. However what one might be comfortable towing is a personal choice.

Go buy a Gas F350. It will be a much better experience.

Bought my F250 and almost instantly regretted not getting the F350 that was similarly equipped sitting right next to it. As long as your HOA is ok with it and state licensing isn't cost prohibitive, go with F350 the first time.
