Let me be the first during this eastern winter blast to announce a frozen tail gate. Its -5 here and I went to load up my spreader to take to work with me and the tail gate opened, I loaded it and when the tail gate was closing it stopped maybe a half inch away. Now it won't open or manually push closed all the way. Won't budge in either direction while pressed the unlock button. Assisted power tail gate on a lariat.

I'm sure something is frozen I just don't know what or how to get to it. I did a little snooping and I guess this is prone to happening with the tail gate step tailgates especially. My question is, if I can pull the step out for some access, what can I spray in there and where do I spray it?

Right now I am thinking white lithium grease just everywhere unless theres something in there I should specifically avoid?

I just got my truck and the tailgate is currently frozen shut too haha. On my Gm I'd just whack it with my palm but that doesn't work with this one.

well for what its worth, I ended up buying WD-40 specialist white lithium grease and now its working lol sprayed all the moving parts I could see and where my bed cover seals against the tailgate just because. Then I hit all the doors on the cab because I wanted my $9 worth from the can.

Thanks for the tip, I'll grab some too. Only downside is it'll be a dust magnet though

I didn't factor that in, but they do say it protects from the dust when it drys so we'll see I guess. "contamination barrier" is how its described

I've never used it before. Will read about it. That would be nice if it actually repelled dust though
