Hit and run

Took the family to San Diego for our annual trip. Some jerk clipped my truck while it was parked and took off without stopping. My father in-law was standing in front of our rental and saw the whole thing. Didn’t get their license plate unfortunately.

I washed up the damaged area when I got home. Looks like scratches/damage to bumper, panel above the bumper and side panel above the driver side front wheel.

Hate to use insurance for something like this but I’m guessing it will cost at least $1K, unless it is more and just painting.

I feel your pain that really sucks man. I never understood peoples total lack of respect for someone else’s property. I remember years and years ago I was doing construction was on the roof of a two-story building I was literally the only car in the parking lot. guy pulls up next to my 73 mach one and bangs his door into my car. I was so pissed yelling at him from the roof.

It's amazing how poor the driving skills are for some percentage of the driver's on the road. The fact that some also have no conscious is even more disturbing.

Just remember that exactly half of the drivers on the road are below average in their driving skills. It's bad enough they hit your truck but it's worse that they ran like cowards.

$2000 minimum if the sensor is still good. All three pieces need to be repainted and blended if you wanted done right.

Ugh, that sucks, @YzermanTopShelf . Same happened to me a few days ago. It was at the dealer service center, they had it parked in their lot, and someone backed into it or something. Fortunately in this case, pushing from the back of the panel popped the dent out, and I didn't see damage to the paint.

Yeah, that is the part that is really disappointing - they ran like cowards. Accidents happen. Not taking responsibility is what really pisses me off.

We sound similar in regards to insurance. I hate to get them involved or to make a claim. But in the end, I guess this is why we pay those premiums.

Hopefully there is no telling after the repairs are made.

and probably less than half heve a drivers licence or insurance. What a shame. I hope you get it repaired successfully at a minium cost

Did you try some of that scratch x product? It won't make it perfect, but maybe good enough that you wouldn't need to claim it.

There is also a cut polish stuff by meguires that I've use to restore shine to the gel coat of my trailer, that might work as well.

I'm sorry this happened. In Germany they are extra extra on these things and mandatory 1-6 month license suspension for hit and run when damage exceeds 50 Euro. So everybody stops and waits. Hopefully insurance covers it without raising premium or going too much out of pocket.
