I know it’s a pipe dream but does anyone else want to see Ford drop that 6.8L V8 in the F150? I’d love to have a pushrod V8 with no cylinder deactivation in a half ton again.

Sadly not the way the world is headed. Smaller displacement forced induction, hybrid, and EV is where we are going, even if some of us are going kicking and screaming.

An aluminum truck with a big ‘ol V8 would actually probably last forever if it weren’t for the electronics!!

Joking aside, I’ve messed around with the build sheets for the F-250 because I find that engine interesting

I haven't really been following that engine but was kind of surprised they came out with a new engine when they have the 7.3 already. Is the 6.8 a similar design to the 7.3?

I had a 7.3 in my F350 and was kind of disapointed, maybe it was because my previous truck was a 6.7 diesel but I never thought it had the power I expected and the mileage was horrible.

If this was 15 years ago I would say hell yeah to the 6.8 or even 7.3 but with turbo engines there is no need for displacement anymore. And I’m just like you guys , love me a V8. Just don’t make sense. I have a feeling the GM 6.2 is a goner too. No way they bring out a oil burner with more torque then their halo engine.

I think they are basically the same just the 6.8 has a smaller stroke

I was still really happy to be able to get the 5.0 in an F-150, no complaints I get 20-21 MPG depending on how much of a cowboy I want to be

Do you do a lot of city or highway? The 5.0 is a great motor. I just don’t trust that cylinder deactivation yet. But it looks like ford is having a lot better luck with it than GM and Chrysler have.

I do a solid 50/50 highway and around town. I ordered the shorter gears (3.73) to give me a bit more mechanical advantage around town. Seems to be working really well.

There are a lot of ways to get around cylinder deactivation (drive in sport, tow/haul, or click the M button). I mess around with the drive modes for fun more than anything, the truck spends most of its life in Normal mode.

6.8? Nah. But put a twin turbo 7.3L in the Raptor. That should put the TRX to shame.

Not much of a need for that big motor any more with the turbo setups out now. Now 10 years ago and that would be different story. The PB with the Livernois tune pulls high 12's in the 1/4 now. Super impressive for a nearly 6K lbs. truck.

I would love it if Ford doubled or tripled the PB battery capacity and put beefier electric motor in it. It would be so nice to actually be able to accelerate from a stop on surface streets in EV mode only.

As much as I'd want it, I think we all know Ford never would. I think I'd much rather have a Powerboost Coyote option. Give us choices, I want 7.2kw pro-power and that simpler/sweet sounding 5.0

That would be a cool thing to see.

I never understood why they chose the Predator in the Raptor R. I mean I understand, since it was already developed. But people seem to say the 7.3 is extremely robust internally, and can easily handle boost. Why not strap the s/c on that and easily surpass the 700/640 rating of the R

Exactly. Who know. Maybe saving it for another special edition? One they can charge 200K for? lol
