My heat shield appears to be coming loose. I'm waiting for it to cool down before I investigate fully, but the shield appears to be attached via 1 or 2 clips, plus some adhesive on the other corner. The adhesive appears to be failing and allows it to drop onto the axle. When going slow/medium (like under 40 mph), there is some noise. (I presume above that speed, the noise goes away before of wind drift below the car is pushing up on the foam heat shield). However, when backing up, it is quite loud because it gets pinched temporarily.

This just happened today. Obviously a pretty minor repair. Any idea on what type of adhesive to stick up in there that would address and still serve "compliant" with the heat around it? Doesn't seem worthy of taking to the dealer and all the issues that go along with what is essentially a 5 minute fix.

TIA.

I considered making a thread for this. I also had the "heat shield rattle". We didn't know what it was at first but it was disturbing as it sounded like flapping sometimes, or like a moped motor other times, and it would increase/decrease frequency with the truck speed (not motor RPMs). I kept thinking it must be one of the alternators or a bad bearing so I got worried and took it in.

Tech came back and said its just the heat shield (whew!). He said on older trucks they would just reclamp it but since mine is brand new he'd just order the new part under warranty, and in the meantime he reclamped it and there is no noise. I don't know the reclamping process or if they used a special adhesive.

He said as soon as the part arrives (any day) he'll call me and it will take 10 minutes when I bring it in.

If you google "F150 heat shield rattle" there are videos of self-repairs so it seems to be common.

IMO highe temp rtv silicone should hold it up pretty well. You may need to keep pressure applied for 20 minutes or so.Another product that may work would be 3M weatherstrip adhesive.

Noticed that on mine couple days after getting it last Aug, when i was under the new truck and also discovered loose wire harnesses all over the place that had clips on them, but werent pushed into it's places, especially back left, where the power connection is. Can't blame everything on Covid, right FOMO...
