Hey all,

Torn on a decision and looking to the community for input. Quick background: My truck got blasted by a rock truck resulting in me needing to have the front bumper and hood repainted... Bastards. Once that's done, I'm having the entire front clip PPF'd with Xpel. In addition, I'm going to have my grille and skid plate (both of which were damaged by the rock truck) sprayed with Line-X to fix and protect them in the future, and I think it'll look good.

As a result of this incident, I've gone down a bit of a rabbit hole on protecting the truck so I also want to either put fender flares or mud flaps on it to protect the sides of the truck from self inflicted injury.

Flares - If I do the fender flares, I'll likely go with the Rough Country Traditional Pocket Flares and have them sprayed with Line-X as both protection and as an accent to the front pieces getting the same treatment. But not sure if that'll look overkill on my truck with just a 2" front level and 285/60R20 Nitto RGs. And, if I go this route, I'm also planning on throwing a set of mystic black Venomrex 601s on it which will bring the wheels out about 1.5" from stock.

Flaps - If I go this route, Rokblokz are my choice of flaps. This would be the cheaper option, obviously, and keep the truck looking a little less "extreme" but don't think they'll offer as much protection and mud flaps kind of make trucks look like my grandpa's truck. No offense to anyone with mudflaps... Just literally a memory of my grandpa's old truck. If I go this route, I still may or may not throw the Venomrexs on it... I've always like them. But not sure the flaps would offer enough protection in either scenario.

Attached are a couple pics of my rig so you can visualize for yourself. Let me know what you think would ultimately look and work best - Vote away!

Flares look good with seriously wide tires and offset. Some states require them under those circumstances. If you are staying inside the wheelwells, I would go with flaps. Tried and true, so to speak. I like Duraflap. I had a set on the rear of my previous F350 KR dually. I liked them because they were real flexible flaps, not rigid plastic. I'm negotiating an order for my new '23 KR to do both front and rear, hoping there hasn't been a bunch of changes over the past three years.

I know you've already decided, but I went back and forth on the mud flap issue for a while. I ended up with the Ford ones and love them. I live about a mile down a dirt road so plenty of rocks flying after pulling out on the highway.

Great to hear - Thanks! Yeah, where I live, they scatter rocks all over the damn roads after any accumulation of snow. It’s like constantly driving on a dirt road and drives me nuts. So that’s exactly what I’m trying to mitigate.
