My 2022 5.0 threw a deep sleep warning; measured the voltage at 12.04 using my voltmeter, then charged it back up to 12.9. I just had it in for service a week ago and their tester (screenshot from a video they sent me) claimed "good, but low on charge" with 693/760 CCA...but they didn't tell me any of this.

Anyway, I currently have an H6 760CCA installed. Does an H8 fit without any modifications (need new heat shield?)? Or should I just go with H7? Also, Everstart (Walmart), Interstate (Costco), or something else?

And just checked this morning, 12.28V (after charging up and sitting in garage overnight)

If your truck is still under warranty, it should be replace by your dealership for free. I believe Ford has 3yr/36m battery replacement under the bumper to bumper warranty. If you want to go that route...

Only if their tester claims it is bad, which in my experience doesn't happen and wastes a lot of my time. I do have a service apt scheduled...just very pessimistic about it.

I did the upgrade... a battery is one of those items that is a high wear item and critical to reliability. My truck was supposed to have an H7, but had an H6. I went H8.. 760 CCA versus 940 for my upgrade battery. You do have to cut out a little plastic clip in the bottom of the tray. i used a multi-tool (M18) and took care of it in 20 seconds.

My factory battery was measuring 600 CCA.. which was low.. 80% is supposed be still a good battery. Maybe in the old days.. start stop takes a wallop out of the battery. While stopped.. the transmission electric pump is pulling 20-30 amps and then the starter is pulling a couple a hundred for a few seconds. Bottom line is.. if you go H8 you will have a lot more capacity and hopefully get a few more years out of the new battery.

I haven't seen this mentioned in other posts. Is this due to 2022 (vs 2021) or model of H8 used? Did you buy an H8 sized insulation jacket?

Post explaining why I like Walmart Everstart Platinum batteries

Post with pics showing drop-in H8 installation in my 2022 Lariat (non-Powerboost)

I did not "have to cut out a little plastic clip in the bottom of the tray" on my 2022 Lariat, it was a strictly drop-in replacement (with reset of BMS per instructions in the Owners Manual).

The PN for the 'insulating jacket' to fit the H8 is KL3Z-10A687-C (the smaller OE will not 'stretch' to fit).

Thanks
At first I looked at your photo and thought that you got screwed by Ford with the wrong battery. Then I looked at my '22 5.0 and I have the same thing, what a crock they are so cheap on battery size!

Just a note. If your F-150 is a Powerboost then H7 is the largest it will take. H8 for the rest.

You will see Buyer makes note his H8 install is for non Powerboost.

Many here think Motorcraft had bad batches of batteries. That combined with trucks waiting on chip holds which is never good for any battery. Short lifespan but some have success with newer Motorcraft batteries.

More capacity doesn't hurt at all, so why not?

H7 Powerboost and H8 for everyone else.
I dropped in an H8 to my 21 Lariat 2.7 and my battery warnings are gone for long time I bet.

I fought them for about a year on this issue the battery would never test at the amps rated but would say good battery . Finally a FSE said to re place the battery and all is right. I said to replace the battery all a long but why listen to a former tech of 40 years

And if you get a H7, make sure it's the 800 CCA model rather than the 760 CCA model.

X2 on this.
My cables were a bit of a stretch to reach but ended up working great. Haven’t missed an update or deep sleep since.

I installed a Deka 9A94R (H7) AGM battery in my truck on 1/8/2023, and I installed the correct battery cover (KL3Z-10A687-B) for that battery. I also updated the battery capacity info at 726-04-01 and I used forscan to change my target SOC from 80% to 90%. I've only driven my truck about 6400 miles since then, but I haven't had any issues since installing the H7 battery and I don't use a trickle charger either.

726-04-01:
H6 battery: XXXX-1C1C-XXXX
H7 battery: XXXX-1E1E-XXXX
H8 battery: XXXX-2020-XXXX

These forscan changes have not been confirmed to be 100% accurate. @Big Dog Daddy provided me with some new information that conflicts with the information I had previously found.
