I noticed in the manual on page 141 this information:

EXTENDING THE EXTERIOR
MIRRORS
This optional feature lets you extend the
mirror about 3 in (75 mm). It is useful when
towing a trailer. You can manually pull out
or push in the mirrors to various positions.

This is in the auto folding mirror section that should be on my Lariat when it arrives.
These are not the big tow mirrors.
The part of "This optional feature...." makes me think there is a version of the auto fold mirrors that you can extend. Well, I never saw anything on this option anywhere when I was ordering my new truck. So, what gives? I am confused.

Only the Tow Mirrors extends, not the standard mirrors (even with auto fold option).

All the above being mentioned, if you ordered with tow mirrors, and you decide you are not happy with them, pretty sure you could find someone local or on this forum willing to trade their standard mirrors for your tow mirrors.

If you ordered tow mirrors and don't like them I will swap you the standard mirrors and pay cash on top.

No tow. Ordered the standard power folding mirrors with chrome backs.

I'm a PowerBoost newbie with the manual tow mirrors. I have mastered the art of folding them, but can they be pushed in from this "extended" position? It looks like they should be able to be pushed in, but I can see myself ripping one of them off the truck. The owners manual is scant on details.

I would be a happy camper if I could get them in, like this:

I’ve got the tow mirrors for my PB with auto extend and auto fold. I’ve only extended them to flex on other 1/2 ton Trucks when I’m bored at stoplights.
