Have a 22 2.7EB payload Package 302a XLT which comes with 3.73 gearing to pull the same size boat or small dump trailer.

Pulled the 7.5 K dump trailer yesterday with no issues so the boat will be also be a non issue.

Have had (2) 3.5 Max tow vehicles after having a 16 2.7EB with towing and 3.55 gearing.

The 16 did OK but needed a little more, 3.5 EB did exceptional towing but lacked to deliver on the grocery getter fuel mileage like the 2.7 did.

2nd choice was a 5.0 with 3.73 gearing with towing or a simpler / luckier find would be a 5.0 max tow which comes with 3.73 gearing.

2.7 Payload package stops at the XLT trim line so if your looking at a higher trim go 5.0 with 3.73 gearing.

You will not regret the 3.73 when pulling or parking a trailer of any type.

Also included the bed utility package, interior work surface along with the 36 gallon fuel tank.

Good Luck;

Hello guys and gals, just needing some advice / opinions. I've decided on getting a 2023 F-150. I'm sure there's multiple threads of this, but I'm torn between getting the 3.5 ecoboost and the 5.0 coyote. My main drawback with the 5.0 is the new cylinder deactivation and how that will affect the engine long term. I plan on keeping this truck as long as I possibly can and occasionally towing a boat in the summer that's around 6-7,000 pounds. Thanks in advance!
I would go for the 3.5 PowerBoost. I have a ‘22 Lariat PowerBoost with the 502a package and just love it. Loads of power and 22 mpg. You should have no problem towing your boat with the 3.5 PB.

I traded a 15 501a 5.0 for a 22 501a 3.5 EB. The 3.5 is my favorite engine I’ve ever had. It‘s night and day from my 5.0. Much better more low end.

I didn’t want cylinder deactivation either.
