The thing is if this was remotely true then wouldn't Ford be screaming this anywhere? Because it would be a huge win for them.

I wonder if Ford is deliberately underpromising so that it does not have a repeat of the PR nightmare of the C-Max and second gen Ford Fusion hybrids where it had to lower the EPA ratings and pay customers $750 each. My 2013 FFH was one of the affected vehicles. If that is the case, then I can see why Ford is waiting for the official EPA results.

I am sure Ford is being a little conservative, but it will be by a few miles (like the Mach-e), not hundreds. EPA testing may give ~307 to the ER and ~235 to the SR and Ford will likely ask them to derate to 300 / 230. Won't matter in the real world at all.

Yes, it's only hope. Zero chance it gets 472 miles of range in any sort of remotely normal use case.

*Especially* now that they've announced the battery sizes that are smaller than expected. 131 kWh isn't going 472 miles in a full-size, squared-off truck.

131 kWh is less than double the 70 kWh of the standard range RWD Mach E, which gets 247 miles EPA range.

The Mach E, with a 131kWh battery, would get 462 miles of EPA range... even assuming no efficiency loss.

So, In order to get 472 miles of range, the Lightning would have to be more efficient than the much lighter, much more aerodynamic, single-motor Mach E.

Sure, the Mach E can probably do better than EPA, so maybe the F-150 doesn't have to be *quite* as efficient as the Mach E, but it's going to be WAY less efficient for MANY reasons.

472 miles is a fantasy, unless it's driving down a mountain at 30mph with a tailwind.
This is the kind of social media post that should be banned. Mixing fact and logic in? Really? ;):D

If the Lightning can get close to 300mi on the highway I'll be happy.

Hoping for a repeat of the MME-- the range was 270mi and multiple reports/tests of people getting 270 or more on the highway@ 70mph. I think Inside EVs got 285mi in an AWD MME if I remember correctly.

That would be great, but I think it is pushing it a bit. ~270 might be more realistic depending on driving speed. Winter will be much less - under 200

270 would still be pretty good--better than most EV out there.

Teslas for the most part are pushing 300mi and other mainstream EVs are closer to 250mi. I was looking at an ID4 and Ioniq5..but those are a bit short on highway range in real world testing. (220 - 240'ish).
