Except if they break it while trying to remove it. Probably a decent chance of that happening.
Yes I know this. They didn't need to replace mine because they didn't break it.

My windshield has a rock chip in it. Will they still reattach the original?

Some People are saying, yes they reattach the original. But, if I were you I would demand a new one. Non negotiable.
Or perhaps throw a $50 bill {$100 in Calif.} to the window installer...to make sure the original has an "accident" ;)

I am in no hurry to have anyone touch my windshield. I am anxious to hear replacement stories.

They will tell you that you have to pay for a new windshield before they will remove to old one.

I’m curious if this will be the case. Ford is obligated to do the recall but what if I refuse to pay for a new one? It’s kinda a gray area.

I had the recall done on my truck. Dealership sent it to a windshield specialist and then told me that they had to replace the windshield. What’s odd is that the Dearborn plant sticker is still on the windshield… seems like a clear sign that they didn’t install a new windshield, right?

I don’t really care if they installed a new windshield- if it wasn’t needed. What is interesting is that the windshield company charged the dealership for a windshield and the dealership then charges Ford.

I would be curious and I would want to ask the glass replacement company. If you were to replace a windshield would you remove and reinstall any stickers from the previous windshield, such as the manufacturing plant as to where the vehicle was built?

If they say no. I would ask talk to an owner or manager at least make them aware of the business practices.
Like you said. It doesn't matter if they really replace the glass or not. As long as you're happy with the end result. But Ford t is going to think they replace the windshield and they may not have.
That's just me. I'm a weirdo. :)

Had mine done and already had a chip in the windshield that I had repaired prior to brining the truck in. Dealer said they have to have replacements available in case a windshield breaks during removal. Did not break mine and have the same windshield re-installed.

Two things I came across that might be handy for the group to know be on the lookout for:

1) They set my passenger wiper up too high and it would not drop low enough like it normally would so it is barely visible if at all. Took it back to make sure it was set right.
2) The installer must have rested the edge of the windshield on the hood on the passenger side. Picked up the truck and the weather was not great / truck dirty so I did not see the small dent in the main driver's side crease that runs the length of the hood about six inches from the back of the hood. Totally visible though once i washed the truck. If you were to rest a windshield on the hood even for a brief moment the aluminum is soft enough and the windshield heavy enough that it will dent it. Mine was dented ever so slightly but enough that I could see it and totally visible when driving which drove me a bit nuts. Paint not scratched at all and assuming they had the hood covered with something. Dealer had to have a paintless dent repair guy out to fix it and now cannot see it at all.

Just a couple of things to be on the lookout for when having this done.

Forgot to mention - either the dealership or the windshield company ripped the leather upholstery that lines the dashboard above the steering wheel. I’m talking to the dealership later today about the tear. Will be interesting to see how they respond. Recommend checking that area when you get you truck back. I didn’t notice it for a few days.

Update - dealership notified me that in fact they did not replace my windshield. Who knows if the adhesive was even fixed... Also, I told them about the tear and sent them pictures, so far they are dragging it out and haven't made any commitments. Pretty sure they are going to do everything they can to avoid fixing it.

Mine was done last week. Oddly, it’s still showing on the Ford pass app as incomplete. Also, they scratched my window tint on the windshield. Dealer is covering the cost of having it re-tinted :)

Hopefully The Tint Guys remove the tint with hot steam so it leaves no residue behind! :)
The alternative is to spray chemicals on the glass to loosen the glue and adhesive ....( which drip onto your dashboard) :(

Is your entire windshield tinted or just the strip?

I have yet to get this done and am worried about them damaging my tinted shield

Update - dealer says the 3rd party windshield company has agreed to fix the damaged upholstery. Things are trending in the right direction!

The day I went to finalize my truck purchase and pick it up from the dealership I was informed about the recall and that my truck might be affected. They initially weren't going to let me take the vehicle on delivery day.

They ended up driving to my house to pick up the truck(dealership is an hour away) the following week - they told me they would only have the vehicle for 2 days, but it ended up being 3 days.

Upon receiving the truck back, I noticed my windshield sprayers weren't working. The windshield company forgot to connect the nozzles back to the reservoir - easy fix.

The smell of adhesive was extremely strong for about 4-5 days - almost to the point of making me nauseous.

I just went to get into my truck last night and had a passenger. As they opened the passenger door, the door rubbed the front fender!!! Service manager said they would not have touched anything that would have caused it - but I have had the truck for just under a month now and it doesn't make sense why the passenger door would start rubbing the front fender now?!?
