Will upgrading from 17x8.5 wheels (305/70) tire to 18x9 (295/70) tires require realignment?

There’s so many conflicting answers. Yes because it’s a taller wheel/tire combo. No because it doesn’t actually mess with suspension components and change the geometry?

Any real world experience upsizing wheels?

Changing wheel/ tire size does not change suspension geometry and therefore does not require an alignment.

What *could* require an alignment would be a change from factory wheel offset/backspacing, as this can change suspension geometry by change the moment arm of the tire on the spindle/hub/axle

An alignment is used to re-align the suspension geometry after years of driving due to changes from the vibrations of the road/tire contact, or when replacing steering/suspension components to ensure the geometry is correct. Increasing wheel/tire diameter does not change geometry

Should of mentioned the new wheels will be a +20 offset from the 17” with a 0 offset. So it will be a positive change in offset.

Nope no alignment needed as @dolsen stated. You may want to verify clearance with that offset change so there's no rubbing on the crash bars. Also as measure the circumference as you may need to update the system with Forscan so your speedo will will be accurate if there's more and 1" difference.

My 305/70r17s only rub in reverse at lock and over some bigger bumps while full lock turning so I’m hoping the 295/70r18s Being only 11.5 inches wide with offset more inwards I won’t have any now.
