I have a 9,810 lb. telehandler I need to tow occasionally. I am not sure what my 24' long bumper pull trailer weighs.

I also have a 12,100 lb skid steer that I need towed every once in a while. Thoughts?

I would go 3/4 ton. Probably 6.7 if towing at highway speeds for any distance.

Payload i.e. tongue weight is likely more relevant than the trailer weight - you need to know that number to answer the question but @ asssumed 10% tongue weight you will run out of payload before absolute towing weight on the skid steer in particular.

I ordered a Sherline scale. I'll get some tongue measurements and report back.

Depends on the configuration you ordered which determines the Payload. Safe to say you should be around 1300 -1500lb payload. If it's just you in the truck then your weight plus tongue weight. Tongue weight is usually 10-15% of trailer weight. You should be able to tow a 12,000lb trailer, but you might be in trouble on payload. I.E tongue weight. For sure you will want a weight distribution hitch and air lift.

Payload is easy...

Ford F-150 Will a PowerBoost w/ Max Tow tow 9,810 lb. telehandler? Payload

If you make max payload work, what i notice here is Ford's towing guide states trailers >5000lbs require a WDH and GCWR is 17000lbs for PB. So expect you can tow the telehandler given a WDH but you cannot tow the skid steer since it + the truck would exceed 17000lbs. I don't know your truck weight but thought PB can be >7000lbs? Loading the trailer correctly (10%-13%) tongue weight would also be key with the telehandler. The sherline scale would allow you to get that perfect.

I’m thinking the GCWR is 18,400. If I am reading this chart right. I have max tow.

Looks like the curb weight is 5,517.

You're absolutely correct @hevnbnd, my mistake.

18400-5517-12100=783 left over i assume you have to deduct for what's on the truck?

I hope i got that math wrong again as it looks similarly challenging to 'legally' towing. I don't even see how Ford themselves could configure a PB per their guidelines to tow the max 12400.

Yeah I don't think Ford knows either. If you notice that chart of the GCWR it shows 4x2 on both columns even though I suspect since the 4x4 column weighs more it is meant to be 4x4...

If i am understanding correctly I would also need to subtract the weight of my trailer from the 18,400 GCWR. My trailer comes in around 4,500 pounds. If that is correct then I would be looking at

18,400 (GCWR) - 5,517 (Curb) - 4,500 (Trailer) = 8,383 left for the load on my trailer...

Do not forget to add the weight of the trailer. If you have a 12,500 # skid steer the trailer designed to carry it would be about 5,000 #. So no you are a 17,500 weight. A 1/2 ton will not get that done.

To add to the above comments about payload: the PowerBoost has about 200lbs less payload than a comparable 3.5 Ecoboost. If you're willing to give up the hybrid you will be more likely to be able to tow it.

I had the same concern towing an 8k lb camper + family and gear in the bed, so I downgraded to the 3.5 ecoboost for the extra payload.

Ford now gives you 300 pounds (150 each for a driver and passenger) in its 2021 payload and tow calculations. So you don’t have to subtract for the driver and if you’re both skinny for the first passenger either... good news though for those of us who were subtracting ourselves before.
