Most everyone on here has a high payload. My payload from the factory was 1251. I added a tonneau cover, bed liner, sway bar and Blue Ox baseplates. From weighing the parts and from the CAT scale my payload now is 1050.

It’s really interesting how all over the map these numbers are. What’s more interesting (to me) is the difference between other RCSB trucks. It never occurred to me how much the weight of additional options and engine size would affect these numbers.

2021 *Fully Loaded Regular Cab Short Bed 4X4 5.0

*Minus power tailgate, power rear window, block heater and adjustable pedals.

Thats only 40lbs. more than my 2023 501a 4x4 PB (=crew cab, with none of the heavy options, sans 4x4)

So much for the PB deficit.

My 09 Tundra Crewmax was I think in the high 12s so this is a step up for me.

One ting I had never noticed is the numbers don't exactly add up on the other label.
Front GAWR 3650
Rear GAWR 3800
Adds up to 7450
GVWR 7050
Where did the other 400 lb go?

GAWRs almost never add up to GVWR.

Since static loading is really all that’s been practical; they provide all those different numbers to make it easier to stay safely within the dynamic loads that the vehicle actually experiences.

Going up or down a hill, taking a turn; accelerating and braking are all going to make those loads completely different in motion.

It’s why many people can get away with overloading their half ton trucks for a couple miles with a ton of topsoil or gravel as long as they creep over speed bumps and generally drive like they’re hauling old dynamite.

Unless you are preposterously overloaded, the truck can carry a lot more than the rated payload as long as it’s standing still. It’s when you get out into the real world and start driving around where it will be a problem.

Fun fact: even if you are within the GVWR, but you bust one of the GAWRs; the vehicle is still considered overweight. Though; it rarely happens with consumer and light commercial trucks. However, there are some anecdotal accounts of overlanders in midsize trucks/SUVs with ladders, rooftop tents and winch bumpers getting pulled over by bored state DOT officers; weighed on mobile scales and getting violated. Otherwise, it is usually only a problem if there’s an accident with injuries and even if it’s the other driver’s fault, there’s a good chance that an astute officer or injury lawyer would make it your problem.

While my payload is embarrassing low compared most (all so far lol), it fits my needs. I don't do heavy hauling. I probably would have been as happy with a mid or large SUV but I like that I can throw bigger stuff in the back and not have to worry about dirt, etc.
The Max Recline seats must weigh less than the standard seats…

how the hell i got 1579 on a fully loaded lariat with every option and no deletions...
22 502A 3.5EB 4x4 Max Tow....
Max tow and the 3.5 raise it a lot.

I think we need a Lariat Screw with a 3.3 and all the heavy options that don't improve the suspension or drivetrain, could probably get it below 1100 lbs.

It almost seems arbitrary,

Certainly irrelevant at the least.
I agree!
I looked at >10 trucks, window stickers, and payload stickers before ordering my truck. The variations were hard to explain.
According to Ford's VIN calculator (which was functioning in Oct 22), my truck's payload was calculated over a week before it was built!
My best estimate for payload was something over 1800#; the Ford calculation and yellow sticker came in at 1787#. Driving home from the dealer with a full tank, the CAT scale payload (GVWR-actual weight) was 1850#.
From 1 owner, I have seen the window sticker and yellow sticker with a payload greater than 2100# on a PowerBoost 157" with a stated max payload of 2090#- go figure;)
