I'm really wanting to stay with the 2.7 and wanting to get a small travel trailer around 5000 lbs. I wouldn't be too concerned if the advertised payload was close to the actual, but it seems to be all over the place. I'm looking at a Lariot 400a 4x2 and want to see if anyone has any real world payload numbers. I'm not getting any of the tailgate, power bed options, or sunroof which should yield higher payload numbers. I'm concerned that I might need to bump up to the 5.0, which I really don't want to do

I know this has been talked about some in other subforums, but I'm looking for 2.7 specific numbers.

Update: The reason I'm concerned about payload is that I plan on buying a camper that weights around 5000 lbs (probably a little less). I have a spreadsheet where I can calculate the needed payload based on worse case scenario. Attached is the payload chart from the brochure. FYI, you'll never see max payload when you option out a truck. (Check the truck sticker with the tire information for payload).

Update Update: Ended up going with the 5.0 Lariat. My payload is 1925.

Started a spreadsheet, the more information I have the better.

Mine is 6600# GVWR
Payload is on your door sticker with the tire info. Number should be closer to 1500 lbs, brochure advertises 1815. But options bring down the payload number. The GVWR # package is what Ford uses to order the frame thickness, it also indicates the max weight that your truck can be loaded to. So payload is calculated by subtracting GVWR from the weight of your truck.

Most of the time it isn't that important unless you are towing a camper, which I intend to purchase. For flat trailers you can manipulate it some by where you place the load over the axle, normally you want it slightly in front.

Do you have sunroof? 500A, 501A, or 502a? Power lift gate or the pro power in the bed? Just curious, since it all takes away from payload.

I have the sun roof, 2K Power on board, spray in bed liner, 502A package, auto tailgate with built in step.
Also, have the B&O Unleashed sound system.

I guess all that brings the total down from 1760 Pounds to 1218Lbs

542 pounds less - ouch
