400 miles on my stock 4x4 PB W/ 20”, best I’ve seen was 23 MPG on a short 30 mile run of mixed city and highway.

my average is 20.5 MPG over the total 400 miles..
Really hoping I can average 23 MPG after bed cover install and learn more tricks to keep in electric mode.
Pretty much my same exact results as Im getting for the same truck., and mixed driving. I just today installed a Bak MX4 bed cover. I leaving for a 500 mile trip in next day or two and will see how it does with lots of freeway miles.

There are a few differences between the 2WD and 4WD trucks. The 2WD Powerboost has 3.55 and the 4WD has 3.73 differential. The 2WD is also about 250 pounds lighter.
I only have 1000 miles on my 4WD and I’ve been able to get as high as 28 mpg if I drive where the speed limit varies from 25 to 45 mph. Mixed highway and city is 22 mpg.

Thank Dan M,
I did not know that the 2wd had a 3.55. I do know that they rated it at 25 mpg but I thought it was the lack of 4x4 and less weight that made the difference of 1 mpg between the 4x4 and 4x2.

Thank you for clarifying.

Yep. My 2017 EB 4x2 was EPA rated 18/25 and it had a 3.55 as well. I think the 2" lower to the ground is the larger factor than weight, it gives less wind resistance. I had way better freeway mileage at 70mph than my new 4x4 with 3.73.

On a related note...

I filled up my first tank yesterday (3.5L PowerBoost w/ 30.6 gallon tank). Was curious to see how accurate the "Miles To Empty" gauge was.

Filled up when it read "1 Mile To Empty", put in 29.6 gallons - stopped at first click so as not to overfill. So I likely had another 15-20 miles to go before it ran bone dry (1 gallon left in the tank is the least amount I'd be comfortable with!).

It's only the first tank and I'm assuming the estimate takes into account average MPG... Curious to know the timeframe used for "average MPG" used in the estimate. Is it "Current Trip", last X number of miles, etc.?

When stock I averaged about 20-22mpg combo driving. My best being 26mpg going from Austin to San Antonio.
Now that it is leveled(2" rc) and has 35" tires(Toyo at3), I average 18 and have not done the Austin-San Antonio trip yet, but I would guess I could get 22 out of it.

I have never figured it out exactly, but it is a recent rolling average. The question is "how recent?" and whether it is a rolling average of last X miles or rolling average of last Y engine hours.

My best indication of it is when I do a towing trip. It seems to take about 2 hours of towing before the DTE is accurate, which would be about 120 miles for me. Then when I unhook, it takes a while to reflect normal driving again. The window is short enough to where I can actually see my DTE *increase* as I drive after unhitching.

So my anecdotal evidence: Roughly the most recent 2+ engine hours or ~120 miles rolling average. It definitely is not "last tank" as that is too large.

I have always had to just estimate from the fuel gauge tick marks, and use ~10mpg or ~20mpg in my head to make sure I'm good to next gas when I know my DTE is not accurate.

Here are my MPG stats before first fuel top off. 40% electric over 300+ miles. Speeds 5 to 55 mph some steep gravel roads both up/down a good mix of highway/city. Regular 87 octane only and temperatures 60 to 90 degF or so. Unloaded just me plus sometimes one passenger no modifications except diamond back HD cover and Michelin LTX A/T^2 stock size 20 inch wheels. King Ranch/ FX4.

Yep, from what I can tell after my first 80 miles on it, if you start really slow and keep from revving too hard you can easily get 24+ mpg. The majority of us don't want to baby our extremely powerful engines and will probably get less than 20 on average. Still very good for a truck of this size and weight.

It's too much of a temptation in blue mode to step on the gas.

Anyone know of a way to force it into eco mode every time you start up or does that only work with Sport mode?

I'm 21.5 after 4500 miles. This truck is way, way too fun around town to constantly keep up your mileage. But I love that I have options...punch it to 70, then try to be as efficient as possible at 70 seems to be my routine.

I just tried Eco mode for the first time yesterday. After shutting off the truck and restarting, I had to manually re-select Eco mode. The second time I shut the truck off and restarted, I was prompted if I wanted to resume Eco mode, so clicked "OK".

Will see what happens today.

I would think that the setting should "stick" automatically between restarts, without the prompt. The color-theme of the drive mode tells you what mode you're in, and should stay put until you change it.
