We had been getting 18.6 MPG running on 87 octane normal driving with no regard to gas economy, 90% of fill ups at Costco over 12,000. Watching a lot of the videos on Youtube from different Youtubers saying they run premium gas. So, for the last two fill ups we used the Costco premium, 91 octane and we went from 18.6 to 21.8 with no change in driving habits over the last 1000 miles.

I’ve been playing with something the last few tanks of fuel which has increased my fuel economy by 2 miles per gallon. When going down hill I change the transmission into manual (to stay in the highest gear possible) then I turn the drive select knob into tow/haul. This forces the engine to turn on/stay on but also forces the hybrid system into regen mode while coasting downhill. The MPG maxes out at 40+ MPG (maxing out the gauge) during this time period. Once I need to hit the accelerator again or after the long downhill, I switch back into normal and unclick manual mode.

this technique has allowed me to recharge the batteries quicker and stay in electricity mode for a longer duration of time while driving around town , compared to just staying in normal mode and using regen to top off the batteries. The increased time spent in electric only has caused My average fuel consumption to drop significantly. So far this has proven to be a successful means of improving fuel economy.

Quick question, I'm getting a lot of electric miles, but I'm still at 12.8L per 100km, I have 150 km total on the truck.. I would have thought almost 1/3 of km being electric would give me better L/100km..?

I have seen that on mine as well. Wondered if it's not calculating things correctly with the electric.

You have to keep in mind that for the most part, the more electric you use, Not only does the engine cycle more, but more importantly, runs with more LOAD as it recharges the battery.

When you are in park and the engine turns on to top off the battery, Its not just running at a specific RPM, its running that rpm under a load which takes more fuel. Its not just idling like a normal v6 EcoBoost.

Sharing this, especially for those looking to lift their truck and upgrade wheels/tires.

11,500 miles on the truck. Averaging 22mpg city / 20 mpg highway. Call it 21 mpg combined, overall, driving in normal mode most of the time. City driving is typical, between 35-55mph. Highway mileage deteriorates significantly every 5mph over 65mph. When I drive 80mph I typically only see 17-18 mpg. 70mph will get me around 20mpg.

My driving style is probably average. Not aggressive, but typically 5-10 mph over the speed limit.

Truck is lifted 1.5 inches (Bilstein 6112 / 5160 combo). Stock 18” wheels. Tires upgraded to the same as what comes on the Tremor: 275/70r18 SL (Standard load, 33” diameter).

I’m extremely pleased with the results.

I've been getting 17.3 MPG running on 87 octane. Normal mode mostly, some highway, but mainly city driving (red light to red light) and my 2021 PB has 3100.0 on it now. I got the truck in December 2021 with 2 months in the shop and really haven't driven it that much. I was hoping for 20 MPG and I know its may go higher with me driving it more.

Give the truck time to break in. A better estimate of your litres per 100km would be around 5000 km on the truck. Once you hit that point that’s about where you will be at.

Kind of an odd one, anyone experiencing a pretty dramatic loss of MPGs with a Retractable Tonneau cover? I got a Retrax XR on my powerboost and lost like 2-2.5mpg average on the last 5 tanks. Went from 21/22 average per tank to around 18/19. Not a huge shift in driving habits either.

The one common route I take I used to get 26mpg in moderate traffic, same conditions and I'm down to 22mpg.

Adding a cover typically causes a negligible difference in mileage. Some get slightly better, others slightly worse. Keep in mind that cover adds about 90+ pounds to the truck. That alone will drop the MPG a little bit, but probably not to the extent you're seeing by itself.

Try switching gas stations as the one you're using may now have a slightly higher concentration of ethanol in the blend or other factors impacting quality of fuel. Ethanol while great for inhibiting detonation lacks the energy density of straight high octane gasoline and E-10 lowers the average MPG by about 3%. E-15 further lowers economy by another 2-3%. If the station(s) you're using messed up and put E-15 in the storage tank or 87 in the 93 (if that's what you use) could account for the MPG loss and be a coincidence in timing that it happened the same time the cover was installed.

Also try keeping the cover open for a tank and see if the change in airflow over the bed makes any difference. As air moves over the truck a static bubble is formed in the bed. On longer beds with the cover closed this bubble may not be forming or is not having as much of an effect and thus increasing drag which also lowers MPG.

I’ve been getting a pretty consistent 25.6-26.0 the last 3 tanks or so. Pretty much 50/50 freeway and back roads. 55 on those and around 72 on the freeway. Using mostly Costco gas but always 87 but staying out of the boost is key. Last tank I got almost 760 miles but did not want to run it too far down. I’ve got about 7k on the truck now. Once the temps drop (Michigan) I know it will go down but to get over 25mpg in a full size truck is just amazing.

Here’s my report after 2500 miles with 295/60/20 Nitto RG. Down about 3 mpg vs stock Hankooks.

Cooler weather came in quickly here, and my fuel economy has also started to drop. I'm struggling to keep the truck above 24 mpg for this tank, but warmer weather I was nearly at 26 over the summer (actual was slightly lower). I'm sure when winter blend fuels are out I'll see another drop 👎

It'll drop again when they switch to the winter gasoline blend.

Last night there was a brush fire along the highway route that I typically take home, I exited the highway and decided to take a different route home with backroads. Got 26 mpg on the way home. This system seems most effeficient between 35-55 mph with the sweet spot around 40-45 mph.
