Well, according to Fuelly the diesel Ram 1500s get about 22mpg on average. The much smaller sample size of the F150 PB is getting 18.8. If the diesel is 20-25% more expensive, you're probably not breaking even with that engine unless you're towing or on the freeway all the time compared with the PB.
Just got back from a round-trip to Portland to pick up my daughter from college. 1700 miles. Flattish, with some rolling hills and small-medium mountains. Pretty much all interstate, which I mostly drove at 75-80mph.
I've got more aggressive Wildpeak All-Terrains, but no lift. Did this trip with a Retrax tonneau, bed rack, and an IKamper Mini roughly the same height as the cab.

Ended up with about a 19mpg average. Honestly, was hoping for a little better than that, given the advertised 24. But maybe the aerodynamics are too big an issue at 75-80.

As others have mentioned, mine is doing better with the warmer weather. And when warmed up, on a medium distance drive with a lot of 30-40mph driving, I can beat the 24mpg. But for overall average, with short trips, freeway trips, and hills...my guess is 20-21 is more realistic. Still pretty good for a truck with this size and power.

Just drove from Reno to Vegas pulling a 17 foot camper trailer and got a whooping 7 mpg. Got 9 mpg a couple weeks ago driving from Reno to Seattle with a 10 foot T@B 320 camper Trailer. Very disappointed this image is from the last leg.

I can make the Reno /Vegas trip on one tank when not pulling so I figured I would have to stop once for gas at the mid point but not 3 times.

We just did a 2400 miles trip for spring break. Averaged 20.5mpg

gas prices where 1-1.50 cheaper per gallon compare to Diesel.

in my opinion not bad, with my Echoboost I use to get 18mpg

Filled up today after trip, mostly on I30 at 75mph and above. Dividing the actual gallons used into the miles driven was 21.2 mpg. The electric miles were on two lane highway in Arkansas.

Other trips at highway only speeds of 75 to 80, are in the 19 mpg range.

Aerodynamics are a big deal. Drag increases with the cube of speed. So if you go twice as fast you get 8x the drag. So the difference between 65 and 85 mph is huge.

So here is my trip into town and back home for work today. Into town is fairly all downhill at 50 mph and 35 in town roughly 50/50 split in miles. Took a slightly different way home but it is 50-60 mph and some 40 mph ~ 4 miles. But almost all up hill. Say what you want about these hybrid engines but I’m becoming a huge fan. ~ 28 mpg combined for 35.8 miles driven is a huge improvement from my old 15 mpg truck.

I'd just remind folks that when towing a trailer with lots of frontal area our mileage is always going to be poor. The aerodynamics of our trucks are poor and they're also rather heavy. Put a trailer which often has even worse aerodynamics and adds a bunch more weight? Yeah, it's gonna be bad.

What's more about the wind resistance/drag? It wouldn't surprise me if the way the wind/breeze comes off the truck is pretty turbulent when interacting with the travel trailer. That just makes the drag even worse.

My best mileage (non-towing) seems to be at about 50-55 mph. That gets me solidly into 10th gear and the wind resistance isn't as bad as if I'm going faster. That with rather careful driving in very low traffic on flat roads has gotten me as much as 27 mpg. I'm sure others have done better, but that's the best I've gotten.

I see a lot of people recommending locking out 9th q10th gears to improve mileage. In my experience I only see over 15 mpg once it gets to those gears. I won't see over 5 -10 until 7th. Anyone else have this?

That's why I'm always surprised when I hear that trucks with canopy tops DON'T get better mileage. Totally understand that they're heavier, but probably only like 200lbs (?). From what I've learned with ship design, longer solid lines = better drag resistance, but that doesn't appear to be the case with trucks. Go figure!
