Here are some of my stats. I actually TRY really hard to optimize fuel and have never come close to a 24mpg tank like my truck is rated. Occasionally I'll beat 24mpg on a single trip but NEVER averaged over a tank. (my 2017 EB I drove the same way and consistently beat both city and hwy EPA rating)

Note last spring I did some towing of a nearly 8K GVWR trailer, and this november I did 900 miles of towing. I think I have about 1,800 of my total miles as towing, which brings my average WAY down. My towing MPG is always between 10-11mpg (10.6 lifetime).

Oh! I even had some generator use in this recent trip because power was shut down to the entire city of Malibu for 2 days due to winds while we were camping.

I am curious to know what folks are getting for MPG for around town and for any highway trip in the real world. I don't expect that towing would see any improvement over the 3.5 Ecoboost, but lots of us buying these are getting them in hopes of overall improved mileage.

Mileage you ask? 5000 miles on my 2021 Platinum Hybrid. 24 mpg, not a chance! I'm beginning to think 24 mpg might be achieved going downhill with a tail wind. My best tank city/highway so far is 19.2 mpg based on actual fuel consumed. That is about 20% less than advertised or 20% more in fuel costs depending on your point of view.

Post 3” lift and 34” AT tires I’m stilling doing better that 20 mpg with the driving I do on a normal basis. Still haven’t been on an interstate but enough time around 65 to agree with you completely. The engine(s!) are definitely going to struggle with that much added rotational mass at 70+. I’ll be more than happy with 22city/18highway.
Can you share pics of the lift and tires?

Best commute yet. I don’t mind rush hr anymore. 60/40 hwy/city. Lifetime mpg is at 25.7

Insane. I'd love for you to try my truck. I don't think it can possibly be me as it was so easy to beat the EPA in my previous XLT and I can not get anywhere near it on my powerboost. 25.7 is quite an achievement for a TRIP for me, let alone lifetime!

Is yours a 4x2? At least that would make me feel a little better. In fact, my 4x2 XLT (rated 18/25) I would consistently get >22mpg non towing. My best tank EVER on my powerboost has been 21.5.

Averaging 26mph and doing 50% electric should get you close to 30mpg.

Oh for sure. I've done one-way trips with a lot of downhill that can get tons of electric miles and can break 30mpg on a trip.

But I think the biggest variable from truck to truck must be the battery I-V curves, and the calibration of the ADC voltage sensors. I think mine is on the lower performing end compared to some of the other testimonials I've read. Anecdotes like "I can use the EV coach screen and see it in the blue electric zone for a few minutes" (don't remember who said this but a few have). A few minutes?!?! Mine depletes on flat drives much much quicker, like maybe 30 seconds max.

I think it was user John C that reported (using Forscan) that the battery only "fully" charges to around 60-65% before the ICE kicks off, then the ICE will kick on again at around 40%. The slope of the voltage in this region should not be super steep, so any variability of the sensor devices used to detect the voltage (i.e. "charge" level of the battery) will swing you very favorably versus unfavorably.

Long story short I'm 99% sure I'm just on the unlucky end of the scale as far my MPG goes due to the reluctance of my truck to use more battery only or assist versus other users' trucks. I just tell myself that on the bright side, if my battery doesn't cycle as deep as you others, then maybe its life will last longer in the overall scheme of things :)

My driving habits are quite similar to summertime. Lots of short runs to stores and restaurants. The only thing I'm not doing is going to the marina (17 mile round trip). My average showing on the fuel economy screen that I have never reset got up to 21.4 late summer just before my truck went into the shop for a month to get the electric drive unit replaced. Since then with the cold weather, the average has tanked to 19.7. That means there have been plenty of lower teens short trip averages.
I've never hand calculated. I'm sure if I did it would be lower. It's still the best mpg I've ever seen with a full size pickup.

2022 F150 KingRanch Powerboost
I'm just hoping the 2022 Powerboost I have on order will perform as well and as reliable as the 2021 has over the last 7 months. Technically it should since I'm really basically swapping a Platinum for a KingRanch.
My driving is mixed Texas rural and interstate. The interstate miles are the toughest on overall Mpg because it's 80mph, but my rural miles (daily) easily recover the tanks average to 21-22.5.
Hand calculated usually is short of 1mpg less than indicated.

Basically I look at it like I'm driving around in a luxury TRUCK with ~600ftlbs of torque, which is insane! And still getting better than 20mpg. I marvel, to be honest.

Fingers crossed the 2022 proves it normal and expected.

As for the 24mpg EPA rating?
For me it's just not practical for me to drive the truck the way that's tested. So it's just not what I ever expected.

This was last night. Hardly any kind of distance but the best I've gotten so far.

3100 miles in and lifetime total is 21.3mpg and that has steadily increased. I've noticed if you take a drive within an hour or so after you just drove it, you'll get a massive increase in mpg. Suspect the engine/battery being warm has a lot to do with it. If you are in a ton of stop and go on highways you're not really going to get good mileage. You'll have to frequently accelerate beyond the electric capacity but not necessarily go long enough to keep a good charge on the battery. If I have a mixed trip 50/50 highway-city and cruise around 35-40 in the city with good flowing traffic, I will almost always get 23-24+ on those trips now.

I say when you subtract the electric miles from total miles you then reach miles per gallon. Otherwise it’s convoluted. I’m getting about 12 mpg.

I’ve had hybrid cars for many years and that is incorrect in my opinion. As another person stated you might have used some gas to charge the batteries as you drove. Bottom line is you went 464 miles and burned 27 ish gallons. Even if you did not have a hybrid maybe you did a lot of coasting down hills or whatever. You wouldn’t subtract that. So don’t do it here either. The only time one might subtract electric miles would be in a plug in hybrid. That’s a totally different situation.
