Look for a couple of threads regarding OBDLink?

It's usually a discussion of PIDs that leads to a discussion of "what is KR" or what is OAR....

Then the discussion will/might devolve into Ecoboost fuel mileage and the sort.

Even a thread discussing transmission surging can include the potential of "lugging" and octane and what I believe are legitimate points related.

A screenshot of my dashboard often draws questions that will be obvious to you.
Top 1/2 is ICE Pids heavily influenced by octane.
Bottom 1/2 is Powerboost Battery Management Pids for both the 12V and High Voltage system.

All of them support fuel economy potential.

What specific PIDs are you using for your battery monitoring? I looked at there lists and see a few for EV battery monitoring.

I’ve done 2 200 mile round trips up to the ski hill and back in snow/slush conditions mostly in 4A @ 23.5mpg each time. Not super but not bad either. The computer reports 100 miles out of 400 being electric.

It's difficult to overestimate the impact of ambient temperatures with regard to the Powerboost's ability to meet expectations.

After some recent frigid temps (relatively), when I filled up yesterday I was greeted with a disappointing forecast for fuel economy.

Miles to Empty 575

Admittedly the algorithm for the forecast was including in its "sample" a fair amount of tomfoolery, along with the cold ambient's impact. What can I say? I find it irresistible at times. 😁

But on the way to work today, as I arrived, I couldn't help but notice the algorithm was recending its gloomy fuel economy forecast continuously.
In fact, Miles To Empty was coincidentally

575

Powerboosts are just like me. They like the thermostat set to 70F 😎

64 miles since fill up. And NOW it's telling me... Lol

I‘ve had my 22 XLT PB for about 6 mos now and I’m getting 25.5 mpg per the trucks computer. The Fuelly app tells me I’m at 24.2 mpg though. Either way, I’m really pleased as my 14 XL F150 averaged around 15 mpg.

What kind of elevation?

I'm in CO and while I can get decent mileage on the way back down to Denver (5200') from 9000', I am getting well under 20mpg on the way up.

I also have 34" K02s, which I believe to chop it down 1-2mpg.

I'm also in CO and the cold weather hurts the MPG and my bones. I'm getting 19.5 on a 13.5 mile commute to work, so it barely has time to warm up completely. If it's sub 0, it doesn't reach full operating temperature and the MPG is near 17. My best "old lady Sunday driver" impression nets 24.5.

It’s Boise to Tamarack, so 2700’ to 5000’ and back. 19.5 up and 28 on the way back. I’ve only used the truck to haul the airstream and these ski trips. Overall mpg is still around 13.5. I think around town is 20mpg.

My much smaller Macan S will do 17.5 up and 33 back for about 24. The X1 will do 18.5 up and upwards 45 back for 30mpg. I’ll use the X1 to save a few bucks to buy lunch, but it’s my least favorite to drive.

I routinely get 20-22mpg on short trips; overall average says 18, though I only have 1400 miles, 500 of which were before I bought it. I'm sure it'll go up in time.

Just a tick over 30,000 miles on the odometer and 20 months of ownership, I've tracked mpg at the pump and in the cluster for 29,935mi (truck had about 130 miles when I bought it).

Lifetime fuel economy has been 20.7 mpg; 21.4 mpg if I back out the ~2000 miles of towing at 14.3 mpg. The cluster has reported 21.5mpg on average over the same duration, so is about 5% optimistic vs the pump/odometer (this is the value on Trip 1, which gets reset with each fill).

A couple of data points:
  • 4067 miles in electric mode
  • Best tank average of 29.9 mpg (yes, really, it was a healthy tailwind pushing from Iowa to Michigan)
  • Worst tank average of 12.5 mpg (-20F temps and 30mph head winds in SoDak in December)
  • Plenty of tanks in 22-23mpg range, a couple near 24mpg offsetting a few outliers at worse consumption - the truck is definitely capable on shorter trips (I see 26-28 driving locally, but usually have enough other driving mixed in to bring the average to ~21)
  • I've spend $4,867 on fuel for an average of $0.16/mi in fuel
  • For comparison, I had a 2017 Tacoma that averaged 18.7 mpg over 54,000 miles of similar driving, and a 2019 Ranger that average 19.6 mpg over 34,000 miles of similar driving - so I'm impressed the more capable F150 is more efficient than the smaller trucks.

I plan to add an ARE cap this spring, and have a lot more travelling planned with the boat this year, so we'll see how this average plays out through this year, but I have no complaints or issues with the capability of the powerboost.

I am under the impression that mpg improves with more driving. If that is true, when?
800+ miles; mostly in town. 19+mpg after 2 half tanks of 91oct alcohol free gas. I don’t drive crazy and make some effort to drive electric. So far, 25-30% electric. I don’t help by eating lunch in the truck, “idling“.

Several threads here on the subject. Here is my result for the first 590ish miles I've driven it..

You also need warmer ambient temperatures. There's hardly a bigger influence on fuel economy than the time spent burning petrol to get the engine coolant temps up around 180F.
In colder climate that can take 2 or 3x's as long (miles) than in milder/warmer climate.

We've recently returned to 60's and 70's and immediately the fuel efficiency that I was missing returned.

Trip1 is reset each fill up. Daily 23 mile commute (one way) of mixed driving. No hyper-miling, but I am engaged. My 2022 KingRanch Powerboost 4WD 157" with 23mpg EPA

Yeah is that 800 miles total or engine running. I think around 7500 engine running miles you should be getting full mpg..maybe sooner.

if so your engine could still only have 600 miles based on your post
