If you have the 8.8 E locker you can use either one no problem. If you had a traditional LS rear, Amsoil all day long. My personal favorite is Redline but it’s really just a matter of personal preference.

Mobil 1 75-90 or the 140W if you get the rear hot.

I have used Royal Purple engine oil in my vehicles for over a decade, but I'm not a big fan of their gear oil. I can't say that the gear oil was 100% at fault, but my 2014 only had 28K on it when I swapped to Royal Purple gear oil and I had no issues at all with the factory fluid. After swapping to Royal Purple, the clutch packs in my rear differential started shuddering.

I added Ford XL-3 friction modifier to address the shudder, but it was a short term fix that never fully solved the problem. I also tried draining out the gear oil and using a different brand, but that didn't help either as the damage was already done. When I eventually pulled my rear diff apart, the clutches were badly hot-spotted and had to be replaced.

Royal Purple gear oil is probably fine for applications that don't use clutch packs, but after that bad experience I'm not too interested in it giving another chance. I prefer to use Redline or Motorcraft gear oil as neither have ever caused issues for me and I use a lot of Redline gear oil at work.

Question - I don't tow much, but 85% of my driving is highway and in hot to very hot climate, with a mix of ski snow cold a couple of times a year. How often do you recommend changing - all fluids? This truck is going to be a keeper - 250K miles plus I hope. Thanks for your views and opinions.

Go with the Amsoil then and even it might need a little extra friction modifier.
What?? E lockers don’t even need any friction modifier technically.
