What about a Superduty with 24.5" semi wheels shaved down to 24" to fit 37" light duty tires. (Not my truck!). Seems to be a new trend...

I like 20s. I like the look of 18s with larger tires as well, just don’t need that on my truck, but I’d be happy with either.

I’m not going to “air down” to climb boulders in a $70k truck, if I were into that, I’d get a specific vehicle for that. I see alot of lifted trucks on my commute everyday that are way cleaner than my truck. I doubt they have a higher payload either with 70lb tires on a 18 inch rim. But they look good. Just like the guys on 20s like their looks.

I mean I was happy with my wife’s C’s but those DD’s I put on there are sweet. 20s rule! lol

I disagree on the 20’s, but I’m willing to take a look at the DD’s you mentioned, since you brought them up…. Feel free to post a pic for our review.

The 20" rims look better :) At least in some peoples minds. The lower profile tires also have less sidewall stretch and can give a bit more road feel in addition to controlling a large trailer better. And yes they do weigh more, scuff easier, and sacrifice some ride quality.
100% in agreement with this. It all comes down to personal preference. I like 20" because with my build, the wheels and chrome addition fill up the wheel wells and compliment the truck. But the downsides noted in this thread are the trade-off.

Typically the overall tire diameter is the same for the 18" and 20" wheels, but for 2021, Ford went to a 275-60r-20, which is an inch taller than the 18" tires. So the ground clearance increases by 1/2", while the sidewall is only 1/2" less.

Geesh. I didn't realize there was only 1/2 inch difference in sidewall. I honestly can't see how that would be that big of a difference in ride quality. That's still 6.5 inches of sidewall for the 20's.

The reason this is interesting to me is because I found a aftermarket wheel I love, but it only comes in a 20 inch version. I just dismissed it and felt I "needed" to buy an 18" so I wouldn't have an awful ride and kill my PB MPG's. Maybe I should relook at the 20" inch wheel I like.

I posted this in another thread about 20" wheel angst...

The tires on a 2022 with 20 inch wheels are 33 inches tall. My 1992, like most every 1992 4x4 had 29 inch tall tires on 15 inch wheels. Nobody thought the tires on a 1992 were low profile...because they weren't...and neither are today's 20 inch set ups. Take a look at the sidewall numbers.

Looking at the inventory of the new trucks (stock orders) arriving at dealers I see almost all the new Lariats have 20" rims. I believe in the Lariat the default is 18" rims in the Chrome and in the Sport. To get the 20"rim you have to select it as an option. Obviously for the dealers to build trucks with 20" rims the demand must be high but I just don't get it. For me, I see no advantage to the larger rims and in fact I see it a huge negative. The negatives for me are, less sidewall that can scuff the rim (it is a truck and meant to go over a few bumps), not a fan of the look (this is obviously a personal thing), rougher ride, more expensive tires, my experience is the tires seem to handle terrible at about 50% wear so they need to be replace far sooner than a tire with a higher aspect ratio. I have had two cars that have had tires with less than a 50% aspect ratio and in both vehicles I was taking the vehicle in for balancing and alignment but it ended up that the tires were only 50% worn and needed to be replaced. Anyway, I'm obviously a minority with this option as the dealers can't seem to order anything but and 20" or higher.
Dont ask me. I hate the big rim look. 20...22...whatever looks like garbage to me. I also dont get the level or lowering stuff. Its a truck. If i wanted a low vehicle, i would net a Mustang GT

But if everyone liked the same thing, this would be a boring planet..

I like what I like. Dont expect others to have same tastes.

Not sure the weight on the Welds vs stock, but you can probably beat tire weight, if wheel weight is higher than stock, you’re looking for an equal or lesser combined weight than stock.

When it comes to wheel/tire size, whole bunch of opinions. Some people like >22s, some people like <18s, what do you like? You can probably find a Ford dealer that has a 14th Gen truck with 20s on to take for a test drive. Food for thought.

They could be 16's or 22's, it doesn't matter. I just thought they were the nicest oem wheels I have ever gotten on the many many Ford's I have purchased. And my tire lady agrees.

Previously I thought you needed 20 inch for the max tow trucks to get the maximum tow rating. But I ordered my max tow and when you added it, it switched to 18inch wheels.

I actually think the 18 inch look sharp, and replacing tires could be cheaper with an 18 inch version vs a 20. But I still wonder for max towing specs do you need the 20inch? I’m actually looking to step up to some LT tires on some yet to be purchased take off wheels from someone but do I want 18 or 20?

Have to agree, I didn’t think I’d like the 18s on the Sport I ordered as much as I do, I’d already made other plans, but they are very sharp wheels and the tires look way more capable than expected.

Either cheap wheels are getting nicer or Ford put some real effort into getting “nicer” wheels.
