Apple is using TomTom since they bought them. I think google is able to provide the mapping database to
For some reason I thought Ford used Here maps.
Maybe it was a thing in the past?

I wish nav worked outside the US. By the time I am back, the trial would have ended. $120/yr is kind of steep.

I use Apple Carplay mainly as well but damn when cellular service is poor where you are at,
then damn you're out of luck..
I don’t have any choice but to use my cell phone for navigation purposes. They pulled the factory nav on my build, so If I forget my phone, I am SOL.

I like the factory Nav but $120 a year is too high for something I only use 4 or 5 times a year.

I'm not 100% certain, but "connected services" is more than navigation stuff. I've yet to see clear and definitive documentation from Ford on what it is. You'll lose the enhanced navigation features we know. I suspect you might lose Alexa. I suspect you'll lose Blue Cruise as well. Again, I'm not certain, but Ford probably has things tied to connected services they think you'll pay money for.

If Ford still needs chips to finish completed trucks, they have have the factory nav from my truck for a small fee. We only use Google and Waze here. When towing a TT, we now use a Garmin RV890 along with Google and Waze for backup.

Just of note. The OP lists a Lariat 501A in his avatar. If he did not get his 2022 truck yet, and sounds like he did not, he probably will not get the connected nav. I think that built in connected nav was axed for 501A and lower back in the early part of the year. I hope I am wrong and he has the truck already.

Blue Cruise is a separate subscription. Connected nav is not a requirement for BlueCruise.

You also have the subscription through ATT for the hotspot.

I think I have all of the offered "connected services" currently offered?

If I retire and find myself on a fixed income, I might view things differently than I currently do? But I'm willing to pony up for all the whiz bang for now.

However, the service that's confusing to me is Ford Streaming? I pay AT&T for the cellular bandwidth. So what's Ford charging me for? It isn't bandwidth.

Sometimes after driving down dusty county dirt roads my Ford navigation gives false locations miles away or just shows a compass scrolling across streams and fields even when I am on the Interstate. Once I wash the truck the navigation works correctly. Not reliable; I have a Garmin that works just fine.

3 years, I think I only got 3 months with my 2021. It still works I guess but no traffic reports. No big deal since I always use Waze on my iPhone and it updates forever for free.

I‘m sure some of us older folks here remember how to use a Thomas Bros map book! 😂

Heaven forbid we have to revert to those, I'm surprised if they're still in the hard-copy business.

i like the Ford Factory NAV, been using them since 2010. It's definitely been improved over the years. The SYNC4 NAV in my 2021 Lariat 502A is awesome.
  • huge screen compared to phone
  • google map based
  • easier to use then google maps on my phone (imo)
  • can use phone as a back up
  • works even when you're out of cellular range...that's HUGE
  • in general i dont like using my phone for everything. dont like the "all eggs in one basket" approach.
