I just placed an order a few weeks ago. 2.7 with the payload package. I test drive both back to back for over an hour and decided on the 2.7. I will rarely tow but should definitely be enough for when I do. Bottom line is I’m super excited about my engine choice.
It’s a great little engine and makes for a really responsive, quick truck. Like I’ve said before, the little nano 2.7 punches above its weight.

It also gets decent mileage. Here’s an update on my MPG while in the dead of winter and burning crappy winter gas. Taken this morning:

Yeah that’s pretty good with winter gas. What are the specs of your truck? U got the payload package? 4x4? Super crew? 36 gallon tank?

302A Super Crew, FX4, 3.73 ELA, (9.75”) standard tow, 36 gallon tank. I do not have the HDPP.

Just curious. What made you get the 3.73 ELA but not the payload package?
HDPP is something I really don’t need. My truck is only used for light-duty tasks. The FX4 plus 2.7 options allowed me to get the 3.73 ELA. I wanted the 3.73 with the hopes for increased low end performance and acceleration. Works well for that.

I'm pretty sure the 2.7 Ecoboost still has the highest take rate out of all the F-150 engine choices, so maybe no news is good news in this case. I'll be ordering my Lariat 501a Supercab with the 2.7 and 3.73 gears pretty soon. The most demanding thing I'll be doing with it is hauling a light weight popup slide-in camper and I'll probably never tow with it, but I want the extra pull of the 3.73s mainly just for driving in the mountains.

Anyone have any idea what the difference in highway fuel economy might be between the 3.55 and 3.73 gears, when paired with the 2.7? I drive A LOT and don't want to sacrifice too much there.

That’s a great question as I have the 2.7/3.73 combination. I can say that I’m very pleased so far with my MPG so far in winter temps running winter gas.

My 2016 F-150 XLT Screw had the 6-speed auto, 2.7 and 3.73. As I recall I was getting about 22-22.5 MPG in the summer.

If you use one of the online RPM calculators and plug in the numbers, there’s to me, not a significant difference of RPMs at say 80 mph between the 3.55 and 3.73 with the same size tire.

Good to know... If you got 22+ with the 6-speed, the 10-speed should be able to hit 24 which I'd be very happy with, and I rarely do more than 75, usually 65-70.

So far the best I have gotten this winter with my 2.7/3.73 is 21.5. That’s mostly highway with a little city. I’m very pleased with that.

2021 STX FX4 2.7 EB SCrew
Traded in my '18 5.0 STX SCrew with a 3.10 rear end (I don't tow squat) 2 weeks ago for a '21 STX FX4 2.7EB with a 3.55 rear end. Smallest engine I've had the joy of driving but a perfect setup for the little off-roading allowed here. Was averaging at best 19.5 mpgs on a heavy foot with the 5.0. 2 fill ups since getting the 2.7 I'm averaging around 23 mpgs with similar driving habits. This is my 5th F150 ('00 4.2L SCab, '03 4.6L SCrew, '11 5.0 SCrew, '18 5.0 SCrew) and admittedly the torq this 6-bangah puts out is quite impressive.

Looking at the orders listed in this forum, not many 2.7's.

I talked to my dealer in ontario, he said the majority of his orders are for the 2.7. Maybe in the USA the preference is 3.5 and in Canada is 2.7? Gas cheaper in the US, then Canada.
Not for long...
