There are other threads about this. Assuming the anecdotal total miles and local fuel prices are accurate, its actually cheaper to use Premium vs. low / mid grade:

490 / 26 gallon tank = 18.84 mpg
490 / 26 = 18.84 mpg
520 / 26 = 20 mpg
560 / 26 = 21.54 mpg

Using a King Soopers gas station in the Denver Metro area, their prices currently show:

85 octane = $3.89
87-89 (not sure what Midgrade is) octane = $4.15
91 octane = $4.40

So fill ups would be:

$3.89 x 26 = $101.14
$4.15 x 26 = $107.90
$4.40 x 26 = $114.40

Cost per mile:

$101.14 / 490 = 20.64 cents per mile
$107.90 / 520 = 20.75 cents per mile
$114.40 / 560 = 20.43 cents per mile

Right?

I run my 5.0 in eco mode with Costco premium gas. it is a daily driver in heavy city freeway traffic, 30 - 40 min commute. I like to get on it a bit sometimes, love the sound, especially when passing an electric car like a tesla, lol.

With the 5.0 V8 squeezing the mixture with a 12:1 compression ratio and the 3.5 EcoBoosts turbos cramming all that extra air into the cylinders these trucks seem to be asking a lot out of 87 octane. There is a lot of pressure in these cylinders no matter which motor you run. What’s the consensus here, I filled up with Plus (89) today.
I always use premium in my 2021 5.0 F150. Top quality fuels of any kind should be sufficient. I seem to get a little better MPGs and with the 5.0 a slight increase of power

No real noticeable gains with 91 in my 5.0. Even if I were to notice, I'd be more inclined to think it's a placebo effect since I'm paying more attention to it.

I stick to 87 and drive my truck fairly aggressively since I utilize a Pedal Commander and have Corsa exhaust. That said, I will go out of my way to fill with 87 ethanol free when given the choice; ~50% of the time.

We got some weird grades here in NM. I usually put mid grade in (88 here) but we have 86, 88 and 91. Maybe 90, never really paid attention.

I hop between E10-87 and E15-88 (branded UNL88) depending on what is cheaper. The UNL88 needs to be about $0.15 cheaper a gallon for me to choose that to make up for the slight MPG hit. I've only run 1 tank of 93 through it, and couldn't notice much difference other than a mild MPG bump. The cost difference around here is about $0.70 between 87 and 93, so not really worth running it unless I will be hauling heavy.

Honestly is varies based on price. My '22 5.0 I'm almost certain would run on turpentine. E85 oh it loves to guzzle it. E10-87, no problems at all. E15-88, again no problems. Non-Ethanol 90 hello fuel mileage. I feed it whatever is cheapest at the time based on price differences between grades. No oil use and my oil analysis was fine.
You get better fuel mileage with 90? How is the mpg with e85

Non-Ethanol 90… Not E-10. As far as E85, I was getting around 14-15mpg combined.

In the 21 5.0 E-85 all summer and 88 in the winter.
In the 22 3.5 91 year around. After it gets tuned 85% 91 and 15% E-85.

E-85 gas mileage sucks in the 5.0 but those Coyotes love the corn squeezins

I've done some big long drives with my 22 PB so far, and there is definitely a performance and range difference between the different octanes. I try to always fill up with at least 91 or higher, I specifically stopped at Buc-ee's in Katy, TX on NYE this year and filled up with 92 ethanol free. We live 154 miles from there, and when I got home the gauge showed 600 miles to empty. I regret not resetting one of the trips to track that fill up 🤦‍♂️

87 for my 2021 5L, just what the manual calls for.

The new f150s no matter what engine really do need to be run on 91 octane if you want the most out of your truck performance wise. Some people don’t care about the best acceleration or power for towing performance, which is fine as the trucks can and will run on at least 87 octane. Just know that when running less than premium, you are no where near the advertised power figures of your truck. 89 octane or “mid grade” fuel is just marketing at its finest. Just run reg or premium. The most important thing for these engines really, with port and direct injection, is to run Top Tier Detergent gasoline, not the cheaper no name gas stations. I’ve worked in the oil and gas industry most of my adult life, all gasoline by itself is the same no matter what company is selling it, but it is the detergent or additives that they put in the fuel that differentiates it. For shell it’s nitro, chevron is techron, etc. I personally don’t believe one is better than the other as long as it has a certified top tier detergent in it to clean and reduce the carbon build up deposits.

41,000 miles on 3.5L 2021 non-hybrid, 87 octane (up to E10 in my county) on every fill because the manual says it's fine. Have poured in a bottle of Seafoam every 8 months or so just because. No issues. Mild towing (~1000 miles with 2200 pound trailer).
