I searched everywhere and couldn't find this specific topic. I ended up buying a 6.5' PB with Max Tow. I don't need the package and don't want the package but had to have this truck. I'm going to level (or at least bring the nose up a bit). I'm curious though, what actually makes the rake more intense on the Max Tow?

Is it the rear leafs? Extra blocks? Shorter struts in the front? Please let me know.

I'm going to be running a shell (only about 200 pounds) and will carry loads for work (max 2500 pounds occaisionally) so I'd like to lift the front up a bit and keep a minimal rake. Curious if I need to stretch to that last ring on the 6112s or if I should consider pulling a block out from the back or both. If it's all in the leaf springs I'd be more encouraged to go to that last ring on the struts.

Thanks.

PB has max tow springs already, only axle changes optioning it on PB and that doesn't change height. On the long bed the rake is more obvious because there's more truck there to see it in the lines (and just a hair less weight on the rear axle empty). Keep in mind when it comes to levels, the PB ends up getting about 1/2 inch less than other trims because it's the piggyboost. I used pucks on mine. The front suspension doesn't have me desiring something else. Perhaps if I did more off road activity my opinion would differ.

All PBs have that rear spring config though, max tow adds the axle and bumper to frame pieces. So when you read threads on PB levels and whatnot, the max tow doesn't change anything visibly, leveled or otherwise.

If you're going to carry loads up to 2500 lbs, wouldn't you want as much rake as possible when the truck is unloaded?

While this modification won't legally increase your payload capacity, swapping in the HDPP rear leaf springs may improve the handling of your truck when it's loaded.

I'd use a helper like RAS or airbags for such max loading, especially if done so regularly.

I’m sorry but isn’t 2500 pounds basically nothing for a truck with a 14,000 pound GVWR? Max Tow is much more than I need, and my loads are short trips from one place to another, unload, pickup, etc. I don’t want to *completely* remove the rake but I still want a virtually level stance.

Thanks for the input. Fair point on the long bed, I will consider that when evaluating the overall look before I replace the suspension.

I won’t offroad a ton but it is something I like to do, I chose the 6112s because they’re a nice upgrade with a boost to the leveling. Not a fan of pucks but I appreciate your experience.

So just to sum up, the max tow rake is the same as a regular tow package rake on a PB?

Correct, no difference. 4WD has a spacer between the axle and the spring set in the rear.

HDPP package gets 7150 Lbs capacity not 14,000 lbs on the F150.

Start by checking the tags that are on the B pillar that can be seen when the drivers door is open. There is one that says "tire and loading information" and it will give the Payload, IE combined weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed_____ lbs. NOTE, this includes the drivers weight as well.

Power Boost trucks have a lower payload than the equivalent ecoboost or 5.0 L trucks.

My F150 5.0L has a gross of 1565 Lbs, so no where near 2500 lbs.

When you say 14000 lbs, are you referring to the towing capacity which on those trucks is just shy of 14,000 lbs?

Rake is there so that the truck levels as weight is added to the box, or tongue weight is added because of a trailer.

I don’t have my truck yet so I can’t check the pillar, just throwing out numbers. I suppose I confused GVWR in this situation because I was discussing rake. I’m aware that the tires have a weight limit and that the payload isnt the GVWR, thanks for pointing that out. I’ll figure it all out when I get ahold of the damn thing. In the end a 2500 pound payload would be a very rare instance, just worst case scenario. I’ll double check my figures.

Single cab 8 foot box you can get that or more. Super Crew, 6"6" box less than that.

What did you order? Your payload will be in the 1350-1650 range (4x4) depending on options. My XLT is 1460 (factory sticker) -- however using ford's own methods I calculate it out to be right about 1840lbs via percent of combined GVWR/GAWR. More info in my franken-frame post

I have a 21 v8 4x4 SuperCab 8 ft
XLT 301a
Only options are console, step boards, bedliner and HDPP wheels.
Payload is 2008#

any trim level over this and the payload starts dropping in a hurry.

we’ve actually made some progress since the 70s & 80s when you could order several specific gvw half ton pickups.

my 79 Chev is a 6200# truck, payload about 1500. Compare that with the base gvw of 4900 and all that was good for was a carton of eggs. Square Body GM pickups were available with 4900,5600,& 6200. Not sure anybody paid any attention to it as most rural and small town trucks were regularly seriously overload.

For what it is worth the 3/4 series gvw started at 6400. That is a football player over the half ton

Max tow has an extra leaf, which raises the rear slightly higher than a regular tow truck.

I installed the Performance level kit yesterday On my 2022 PB with max tow. the front is now 1/2‘’ less than the rear set on the 2.5 ring. Note, the axle nut on this is a BAN. (Big a@@ nut), not the tiny one found on the non max tow.
