I have this right out of the box. 400 miles on the odo. Very loud, happened around 45mph, sounded like a front wheel bearing gone bad. I drove thru it and it abruptly stopped after a couple miles. Between this and the whirring I get in the pedal around 60mph, very disappointed. I hope these issues resolve themselves because they have “can not reproduce” written all over them.

I understand your frustration but especially for new truck, that's unacceptable! It's also embarrassing when passengers are on-board and they are surprised this new truck is making these weird sounds - then the usual Ford comments, I told you so's, etc., ensue. I agree, it's very disappointing. I thought mine resolved itself, but it turns out it doesn't make the sound in warm weather. I'm into my 2nd winter with the truck and it's worse this winter than last. I don't think this will just take care of itself unfortunately.

Same here... as the weather started changing. Any luck with the dealer today?
Just stopped there today. Service advisor took a drive with me and immediately heard it. Have another appointment for next week and they will tear into it.

Hey @MN_Hockey_Fan any developments with your truck? My truck is getting worse! 🙁 Here is a new Video
This time, the sound can be heard fairly well in the video since it was louder than it has been before. I am going to take mine back to the dealer, but last time, they were not able to duplicate the issue. Here is hoping for round 2. 🤞
That certainly sounds like it. Mine left the dealer with them documenting/hearing the issue but unable to identify the cause or duplicate it on the second day. I then went several days without hearing it, but have a few times intermittently after. Temp seems to be a factor and it has been warmer than normal. Ford rep got me in contact with someone and a case number, will call tomorrow to see if they can shed any light.

My service advisor went for a drive with me and he immediately heard the sound and then when switching from 4a to 2H the sound completely goes away. So we both think it’s related to IWE’s. We will see next week.

Cold today. Drove about 15 miles to the dealership to pick up parts. Truck made on odd sound while shutting it down. Almost like an electric motor coasting to a stop. On the return trip I could hear the grinding starting up while pulling out of the dealership. I immediately pressed 4H and it stopped. So I believe the theory that this is a faulty IWE. So it definitely needs a fix, something about the cold is affecting the system. Two questions;

When the noise starts up, is this causing damage in the hub?

Does the powerboost ICE start/stop affect this system due to inconsistent engine vacuum?

Interesting you stopped it by going 4A—>2H and I stopped it by going 2H —>4H.

Yeah. It’s gotta be something with the iwe’s.

I just returned from my local dealer. When I mentioned the issue to my service advisor (the sounds and how switching between 2wd and 4wd made impacted the sounds), he instantly knew what the issue was. Interesting that a year ago, this was foreign to him, but now, it's like this isn't new to him. He watched the video and said he would order the parts without even looking at it. He's had many of these cases and it is indeed related to the IWE’s. There is a seal inside each IWE's that has seen a high failure rate. I have an appointment next week to complete this service. Hopefully this takes care of the issue!
