Was the GEN13 a better looking exterior?

I love my 2022 Lariat and with everything going on the past year feel lucky to have Bluecruise, heated wheel, and even park assist that I'll likely never use. The interior is a huge upgrade and was the main reason I gave up my 2020. It didn't hurt that after 2 years of use I was able to sell it for nearly what I paid new.

But looking at 2020's owned by others at work and old pics of my 2020 I think that objectively the previous generation was a more handsome truck. Part of it is the boring Lariat Sport grille Ford uses I suppose...or maybe I'm a chrome guy and don't know it.

If you got the chrome package on the 22, I'd probably be more inclined to say the 22 is hands down nicer looking. I like the wider stance, body shaping, arches, mirrors, and lights much better on the 22 than predecessors. 2nd place might be the STX package 15-17s. I really like those early 90s square bodies too. The 18-20s were a mistake. Absolutely terrible front facia.

The chromed out 22 lariat is tied with the platinum for best looking trucks in the modern era IMHO. FWIW, I really liked the late 00 GM trucks too.

I wanted a 2022 1500 truck with a large gas tank, V-6 engine, locking rear difflerential, and a super cab for a shorter wheelbase. What I eventually found was a supercrew with this other features and got to pay $5,000 over MSRP to get it.

How a "truck" looks has never been a consideration. On the contrary the GM and Ram trucks with the squished headlights provided very poor illumination of the roadway at night and was too much of a safety risk to buy one.

The 2022 F-150 has the worst cockpit displays and steering wheel controls of any pickup made today. It was a big step down from my Chevy truck and SUV vehicles. One sits lower in the F-150 and has a poor view over the hood and front fenders, so I make use of the 360 degree camera displays a great deal of the time. For me this is a must have item on a Ford pickup.

I don't know about "gen's" and all that, but I have owned an '87, '97, '05, '15 and have a 2023 on order right now. I think the current gen is better looking than the '18-'20.

I liked the 2015-2017 looks a lot better than the 2018-2020. Especially the front end. Also there were some fit and finish things I liked about the '15-'17, like the rear seat locking mechanism was a handle, vs the silly pull string on the 2018 and newer trucks (seems '21-'23 have this too).

Also liked the '04-'08 looks better than the '09-'14. 2015 was a huge improvement on the previous generation.

Never really liked the looks of the '97-2003 trucks, but I needed to replace my 10 year old truck and the "completely redesigned for '97" trucks offered a lot over the previous generation. Everything was new, from the frame up. It was an OK truck, served me well, but I thought it was a step backwards in the "looks" department over the '92-'96. Were a lot better on gas though. My 2005 was worlds more heavy duty and stout than the '97-'03 trucks.

I really like the hood air intakes on GMs and Toyotas. I don't like the Gen 14 hood: too many complex shapes without any real point. I prefer the lack of a side vent on the Gen 13. The bumpers on all of these trucks are functionally bad, but from an aesthetic standpoint, their job is to take some scuffs/dings/bumps et c and still look nice. Instead, the bumpers are made of paper thin metal and plastic that are if anything LESS resilient than the body panels they're supposed to defend.

The good news is that ALL of these issues can be addressed. Cervini's makes some really nice hoods, and I think the ram air is SHARP. The Air Design side vents look great when painted, and there are several awesome bumpers available. With some effort, I think the Gen 14 is probably the better looking truck, but I would've preferred to have it come that way from the factory.

The older trucks from Ford and GM and Ram had stylish headlamps that were so poor at lighting the road ahead as to constitute a safety hazard. I was glad to see this design defect was corrected by the truck manufacturers when I was shopping for a new pickup last year.

The grille with the open bottom looked incomplete

The 2018-2020 was what brought me back to Ford. After 2 GMC trucks from 2012 , i came back to Ford because i thought the 13th gens were so damn good looking!
I love my 14th gen but IMO the 13th gen was best looking F150 .

Nope, wouldn't have bought it if it still looked like that.
