Thanks to a new forced update from Ford, whenever I open the door the chime starts ringing and does not go off until I close the door. This happens when the engine is off so it is not a safety feature but rather an annoyance. I was told by Ford to go to the local service shop of a dealer and I was told by a dealer service rep that this cannot be changed.

Forced programming updates is why my next truck is not going to be one made by Ford.

Did you do mods with Forscan?

Some settings can revert back to factory with updates.

Door chime would be key/fob in truck or your lights are manually turned on.

Told by Ford Customer service and by the Ford dealer's service person that this update cannot be undone. Before forced update if the engine was off and I opened the door there was no chime. I only got an alert if the engine was running and I got out of the truck with the key fob in my pocket.

Do you know the version number of the update? You just list a 22 F 150.... what trim level?

Not to minimize this annoyance, however whatever your next vehicle is it will more than likely have automatic programming updates as a "feature".

If it was my truck, I would be annoyed too.

Unfortunately we have incompetent product managers who have programming changes made with no regard for the users and absolutely no mechanism to test and get feedback from real people.

It has become quite pervasive in our increasingly automated environment. It is why having spent 30 years in systems and software development, I would never trust a "self-driving" car.

Damned if we get them, damned if we don't. 🙄🤣

If you sell 500,000 of anything, it's impossible to....... Well, you know.

Unplug the modem. But I'd wait until you have all the features you want.

We wouldn't be damned if we get them if they always did "good" things... Of course that's subjective, but they could also give the owner some control over it so people don't get upset of the optional "features." OP's indignation in my opinion is valid, and shouldn't be trivialized. The truck should be the truck and not change behaviors until the owner hits accept on the individual change. Even if he can turn all the noise off via FORSCAN, that's not something that should be expected of an average user. An average owner shouldn't have to know what FORSCAN is. Large companies just don't seem to care how many customers they annoy with broken updates, b/c their competitors are just as bad or worse.

Sorry. It's just my nature to border on "trivializing", as you put it, our collective first world problems.

We are talking about door chimes as we step into our trucks that cost more than 75% of the earth's population will earn in a lifetime?

But I'll try to be more serious for the rest of the day about such. (I suck at it. Fair warning. 🤣)

I had the same issue. Somehow the headlamp mode was changed from "auto" to "on". Turning the headlamp control back to "auto" or "off" fixed the problem. I'm positive I didn't switch the modes to cause the problem.
