Just finished an easy mod so I can hook up my TT to my 7.2Kw Pro Power Onboard without having a cable come over the top of the tailgate. Purchased a cable with correct ends L14-30P and TT-30R off Amazon for $33 and just ran the cable down the factory hole in the rear bed pillar. Super easy. Took less than 30 mins. Now I just need to cover under bed receptacle with something. Going to get some orange tape and wrap it for First Responders know its High Voltage just to be save. Only going to be used while parked and camping.

That could be useful to leave your trailer plugged in, with the bed closed. If used only intermittently, consider leaving it unplugged until needed.

Also, how do you plan to protect it against road grime and potential short circuits?

Its going to be left unplugged while not in use. I'm not going to use it while driving.

What happens with the L14-30P connector in the bed when you are not out with your travel trailer?

I just put a bed cover on the truck yesterday. I have it tie-wrapped next to the power panel in the bed and its not in my way. I'm still looking at options for this setup. I'm taking my TT out soon and needed a quick fix and that is why I did this like this.

As a fellow RV'er, that's an excellent mod! Very clean as well. Great job!

Since that's a common generator plug, you may just find a dummy protector end for so you can protect the pins.

Consider using a LT14-30p to the connector below the bed to reduce corrosion on that exposed plug. Plus dielectric grease.

It appears OEMs use white lithium instead of DE. All of the grease I've found on the truck's connectors appears to be the same white grease used elsewhere. For HV use DE. It's silicone so use caution w/ it. It gets everywhere if you touch it and don't wash it off. Silicone isn't good for ya, but works great.

Very cool. So jealous about you having pro onboard power. I wish I would have purchased a hybrid with it.

Read this thread and am excited to try the same thing.

mom going to use these connectors to keep the bulk down, as well as protect the pig tails. Then will make pig tails with another set of these connectors to plug in. Basically “splice” the wire you have with these connectors.
