Well, the many years of fantasizing about my new daily driver purchase is finally over. I waited quite a few years before finally buying my new truck. Covid put me on pause since my priority was a house and I fought and clawed and sacrificed like a mofo to pull that off and save. Never plan to sell my '04 or the Mustang so I had to sit tight and keep saving my way into a house and chase the vehicle market. Tough but incredibly proud of all my sacrifice and hard work.

I've had my 2004 F-150 since I was 17 years old, and here we are over 16 years of ownership and 20 years separating my old girl and the new daily. I also have a 2007 Mustang GT 5 speed that I've had for 5 years now.

My new truck is super basic but if you've been around trucks for a long time, this is pretty loaded and representative of a mid trim over the past 30 years or so. Absolutely blown away at the features. I absolutely love the vinyl floor and any of the little options I'm missing, I have mods planned that address all of those so a lot of things weren't overly important to me.

Two-wheel drive was a must as was the 5.0 and the electronic locking rear differential. She will eventually tow a camper in the future so I wanted the ability for better traction if needed.

Picked her up today and looking forward to many years ahead.

My first mod was the factory exhaust tip. There was a thread on another form about a little cheat where there is a discontinued part number that Ford had for the same exact factory exhaust tip. Picked it up brand new off eBay for $51 shipped versus the over $100 Ford wants in their accessory catalog lol. (2021-2023 FORD F-150 EXTENSION PIPE NEW OEM ML3Z-5202-D)

I also picked up a set of NXTGEN brand convex mirrors off Amazon that were well rated and designed to fit the contour of the mirrors. Very happy with those as well. Down the road I will do the trailer towing mirrors but the camper is a few years away so not worried about that right now.

Since the truck is basically a work truck, my local dealer had a few of these on the lot and each one was very well equipped with the 5.0 and the electronic locking rear end. They definitely raised an eyebrow when a younger guy like me comes in seeking out that truck, but the salesman saw my '04 and realized how much more advanced this newer one is versus what I've been used to for many years.

As part of the deal I negotiated a rhino lining that they do in house, no charge. The truck also came equipped from Ford with the Ford running boards and Ford mud guards. Items I would definitely do myself so was happy to have that already from the factory.

It did include the Ford roadside kit which for whatever reason was spec'd with the truck.

Congrats on the new truck. Looks like you've been hanging around a few months and have a pretty good understanding of popular mods.

Here are the pictures of my fun toys. Lots of work into my '04 over the years and I'm from New England so very impressive the condition at 21 years old. I've been down in North Carolina now for almost 7 years away from the snow.

My Mustang is mostly factory but I do have a bunch of limited Shelby GT500 parts from various eras on the car. I am more of a factory plus kind of guy, and that'll be the theme with the new 2024 as well. I have some nice stuff planned.

My '04 actually started a very similar way. I'll include that original picture, not much to look at. But over the years I've used a lot of OEM 2006-08 f150 Harley-Davidson parts. Many of these good luck finding like the wheels that were 1 year only lol.

Which lowering kit do you have on the 2004?

I am about to install a Belltech 2/3 on my 2009 RCSB. It already being a 2WD, it's actually a 2/2. Will be pulling the overlead leaf to get the rear a little lower.

That's actually what I did too. A 2/2

I did Belltech drop spindles up front for 2-in up there. And then I did ground force 2-in lowering shackles in the rear. Then you can use all factory parts for replacements in the future which I like. Truck looks great!

Thank you! I had joined here a while ago and I'm very active throughout the various generations of F-150 forums and Facebook groups as a lurker. I try to stay up on everything over the years.

Yeah, have more pics of the 04? I find just the shackles with a 2" front drop has the rake a bit aggressive. Hoping pulling the overload leaf and getting an extra 3/4" will have it where I want it.

I have a different leaf spring setup because of the changes throughout the years. I think I have four leafs. Then I think they went to three. 2wd

been driving pretty much exclusively base v8 manual trans pickups since the 70s (still have a 79 c10 I bought new at 18).
I ordered a new 21 XLT 4x4
Amazing all the new frilly stuff that is standard equipment.
Went XLT for interior color, leather wheel & power seat. Could care less about anything else and most “features” are shut off.
Despite all the hype over the 3.5 eco boost, I’m quite happy with the v8. Pretty zippy and fuel mileage is impressive for what it is.
Mine is a 8’ bed SuperCab and it’s only drawback is maneuvering in parking lots, but given the smooth ride, I’m not concerned about it

Man the convex mirror is probably the thing I miss the most on my new truck. My previous 2011 had way better standard mirrors.

It is truly insane too look back at trucks from that era and see what you used to get versus today. I grew up riding in an 84 c20 and It had nothing like the base model trucks of today have haha. I love the V8, smooth and very powerful and sounds awesome even stock. The fuel mileage is incredible paired With the 10 speed.

I'm sure with the 8-ft bed that thing drives wonderful. Nice long wheelbase

I didn't realize they were removed until I saw post referring to the blind spot monitoring now being standard. So they got rid of the convex mirrors for that reason?

I will admit, I put 12th gen mirrors on my 2004 and despite the passenger side having the built-in convex mirror, I still added my own mirrors to both the driver and also the passenger side. The built in one just didn't allow me to see what I want to.

I guess in this instance on my '24, it worked out not having it so I could add exactly what I wanted to see what I need to.

Yes. I had a 2018 F150 before that had the factory convex blind spot mirrors. My Bronco also had them and I loved them on both vehicles, they basically eliminated your blind spot.
I was honestly thinking of getting base mirror glass for a 21-23 and swapping them on to my 24 just to get the little mirrors again. At this point I probably won’t just because I’ve gotten used to the BLIS now. But I still prefer the convex mirrors.
