2021 XLT 302a truck, came with the now-famous Pro Trailer Backup Assist sensor and install kit. I've installed it, but during trailer setup I get stopped with a message about System is not available. I've checked and re-seated the trailer cable connectors and even the back side of the bumper connector.

I've searched and could not find anyone with an answer to why this happens.

And here shows where I've mounted the sensor:

Any idea to try would be very much appreciated :)

Check all of your under hood fuses. Another thread about them not fully seated. Might luck into something there.

I checked those fuses and was amazed that almost every one was able to be pushed in a little more. Like they weren't really snapped in place. Did not solve my issue however.

I took it to the dealer yesterday and that was a waste of time.

I was hoping to get the keys to another 2021 at the dealer this morning, to see if it behaves the same way. They only had 3 2021's, and none of them have the trailer tech package.

Finally got time to experiment with pro trailer backup assist again today and may have figured it out. I connected the sensor harness, put the truck in reverse, pushed the backup assist button on the dash, and noticed the center screen said "Reverse brake assist not available" or some such. I went into settings and reverse brake assist was indeed turned on, but I toggled it on and off. Now the Pro Trailer Backup assist recognizes my trailer and I no longer get System Is Not Available.

Did you see my fix about toggling reverse brake assist on and off?

I also had the same problem. Toggling the brake assist did not help.
After some googling, came across TSB 22-2121 re trucks built in Oct 21 at the KC plant. Dealer reflashed a module (ipma) and did an alignment of the backup camera (took about 4.5 hours). System is working now.

with trailer plugged in and truck seeing the trailer, you should get a reverse brake assist not available. its really a PITA because each time you shift back to fwd to pull up or whatever and then back to reverse it comes up again
good to know you got it fixed
i like my pro trailer thing, except it does not like hard 90 degree turns off the street , my trailer has a long wheelbase from tongue to wheels so its like backing up an airplane , 🤗
