Hello everyone.
I am a first time truck buyer AND first time Ford buyer. Overall I am very happy with the new truck. ( 21 F-150, supercrew 2.7 XLT)

I was wondering if anyone had any information on transmission oil changes. From what I understand the unit is sealed and the fluid is considered “ lifetime”

with that being said I still feel changing it in regular intervals is good practice.

would this be a dealer only job or are there ways for owners to drop and fill in their garages at home.

At home you can always drop the pan and refill the fluid that comes out. Only problem with this method is your only swapping a portion of what the trans actually holds.

Most dealers use a powered flush machine that will replace the entire capacity with new fluid.

Fully expect to never change the tranny fluid during the time of my ownership. I haven't looked but I suspect it's a sealed system without a trans dipstick.

I change the trans fluid on all of my trucks, at home, every 50k miles. There is no such thing as lifetime fluid. I usually do the diffs and transfer case also. It's a good practice. For the trans, I get almost the entire amount out by disconnecting the fittings at the cooler, fitting a tube over the trans cooler lines, and letting it run for a minute or two to pump out the fluid, until I see small air bubbles in the fluid that comes out. On my Chevy, the capacity is 14 quarts and I got out about 13 including what I pump out and what is in the pan. I also always use OEM fluids for trans.

it has a dipstick, its a very difficult procedure and the fluid is expensive and toxic, bring it to a dealer and have them do it. its designed to not be done by the everyman on purpose

I'm not sure I agree. Unless the F-150 is somehow different, it's not too hard for someone with basic mechanical skills.

I’m not sure mine will last a lifetime, while doing an oil change at 5,000miles looking at my tranny it looks like a very small amount of fluid leaking out at the gasket. I wiped along the crease shown in the picture and it was red fluid. Anyone else have this issue?
