Toyo released their latest tire a couple of months ago, the Toyo Open Country RT Trail. I ordered them in the stock size 275/60r20 on 12/24 from 4 Wheel Parts and picked them up from their store on 12/26. Just got them installed yesterday and they look and perform amazing! Here’s a few things I have noted since getting these tires:
- Road Noise - you can definitely hear them compared to the stock Pirelli Scorpion ATR’s but they are definitely quiet for how aggressive they are. I would say they are on par with the Ridge Grapplers (had them on my previous F-150) in terms of road noise and can easily be drowned out by turning up the radio a bit.
- Weight - this is one of the biggest factors that determined why I got these tires since I did not want to kill my MPG’s nor my acceleration. They are very light (this size is in an SL rating) at 43lbs (I weighed them myself). I will update with MPG figures once I have them on for a while but I don’t expect any significant drop due to how close their weight is to stock tires.
- Comfort - they ride just as smooth if not smoother than the Pirelli’s. They handle large potholes and bumps better but they do wander just a tad which I expected switching to a more aggressive tread pattern.
- Wet/Snow Performance - we are expecting some rain later this week so I will update once I get some time in the rain. These tires are not 3PMSF rated.
- Overall impressions - these tires look and perform amazing. I would say this is the perfect tire for those looking for the looks and performance of the Ridge Grapplers but don’t want the weight that comes with them (47lbs for the 275/60r20 XL rated tires). Overall, I am very happy with these tires after driving 500 miles with them. Good job Toyo!
