22 f150 3.5 ecoboost super crew 4x2 xl. 3.55 gearing. Truck has no towing packages other than class IV hitch.
I have done a lot of research and seems only difference on my new truck and a towing package is mainly trailer brakes. Sticker under my hitch says with WDH my hitch is capable of 11,600. My question is, is that just a safety towing recommendation since truck doesn’t come factory with the TBC? Here is pic of my window sticker and some info. I will gladly add a factory controller if that means I can tow up to 11,600….i will NOT tow over 8,000 either way.

Payload is set by the yellow sticker on driver door jamb.
Payload minus all cargo added to the vehicle, ie you passengers cargo and trailer tongue weight.
Trailer tongue weight should be 13% of trailers max weight rating to be sure.

Tow package has varied over the years with rad options and what not. The 7800lbs of trailer is acceptable w/ TBC but you're missing some rad size.

Note that GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating) is not provided on any data sticker on the truck. (it's not required by any regulation).

The GCWR must be derived by looking at the tables in the applicable RV & Trailer Towing Guide.

Indeed, per ford its 16,500, it's lacking the ever so slightly larger rad and TBC. The limiting factor here given all variables would be the radiator's smaller size and on a box / TT is the frontal area considerations more so than weight. Adding in the TBC will safely take him up to his trailers mass.

I feel like I need to add this because I didn’t see anyone bringing it up. I sure as hell would not recommend towing a 7k trailer without a brake controller.

if I remember correctly, any trailer with a weight over 3K is required to have brakes

With no TBC I would check what trailer plugs are on the truck. If you got just the 4 pin. You will need the 7 pin to pull your trailer

I don’t think yall are understanding what I’m asking. I’m asking what is different on my truck with no towing packages and a truck with a towing package? I’m saying only difference I see is I need to add a trailer brake, the. Maybe my truck would be rated to pull more than the 7,000? 7,000 seems low for a 3.5

Payload will ALWAYS determine what you pull based on my previous equation regardless of any other GCWR GVWR etc b/c the truck can only physically carry so much weight d/t components!
And yes you require a TBC and the proper 7pin as previously mentioned
