Howdy folks, got a ‘21 Lariat Sport that I’d like to replace the chrome tow mirror skull caps with the glossy black (plastic not painted I believe) ones that I see on the new F-250s. Anybody know if these are interchangeable with our F-150’s and better yet, the part number for the gloss black caps for the F-250’s? Can’t seem to pull up any 2022 Ford parts online. Thanks!

- sorry I didn’t read you wanted gloss.
No worries. I was realizing that Ford parts come unpainted, anyhow, so I'm going with a company that paints OEM Ford parts, emblems, etc. Not sure if Ford caps are glossy plastic (like my Expedition) or painted, but having a painted Shadow Black cap shipped to me then I'll sell my barely used Chrome caps to make back a little money. Cheers!

The F250 tow mirrors are the same as the F150 tow mirrors

Well I can say this after reading another post I went and bought Ford black plastic textured skull caps that match perfectly but upon trying to install when I was removing the chrome ones I did notice one difference, there are tabs on the caps, the chrome tabs are in a different place than the plastic ones I bought and show here in my post. I knew I had to break the chrome ones bottom hook tab and didn't want to remove the chrome and then these black ones would not work, so now I am stuck with two black caps and not doing anything. So hard to find videos or anyone showing that they have ACTUALLY replaced these chrome ones with the ones I bought. There also has to be a way to remove these damn skull caps without breaking them, and without dismantling the mirror which I am told that can break easily because it has numerous plastic tabs also. I just wish Ford was f....ing smarter and sold a black out F150 or a Sport like I bought but with all black trim.

Let us know how you sell the chrome ones when it's almost impossible to remove them without breaking the lower hooked tab. Unless you know the trick to not breaking it.

Well, good news (and a little bad news). The replacement caps fit! I did take the mirror glass off to make it easier on myself, and actually succeeded in not breaking any tabs on the first cap. But my method didn’t work on the second and did break that lower tab. I’m not sure how much I could sell these chrome ones for anyhow… I’ve been selling some other used stuff lately and seems people aren’t as interested as in the past.

Anyhow, it looks fantastic and was pretty easy overall if you can care less about breaking any old tabs. I think your textured black ones will work fine, if that’s what you want. The tabs appear to be the same. The pic below is the back of the chrome ones I took off.

Btw, I got these Shadow Black painted caps from BFN Truck via eBay, about $230.

thanks, so I was right though the chromes ones actually have extra tabs in the middle as seen on your picture. The black textured ones I have do not have those tabs, only the ones at the bottom. Not sure if those middle tabs matter or not.

oh, yeah, the middle guides. I bet those don’t matter and that’s how all the XLT’s are rolling around in exactly. I don’t think they actually touch anything if I remember right - pretty hollow back there beyond the 4 tabs. More like a guide (robotic handle?). The 3 outer tabs seem critical, the bottom I suppose too although I bet somebody could successfully double-side 3M tape the bottom if needed. Seems the least important.

I think you should give it a go - they’ll fit. I prob wouldn’t waste trying to salvage that lower tab…. Just the outer 3 will do releases from the inside. Heck, start with the driver mirror, if for some reason it doesn’t snap right on, I’ll send you my perfect chrome left cap for just shipping - just 700 miles on them. Cheers.
