As an update, the OEM tires are fine on hardpack snow. Using slippery mode and driving cautiously when the roads are poor has been relatively confidence inspiring. I really can't say I have had any white knuckle moments thus far, but the season is young, and I haven't had to be out in truly bad conditions.
Coming from a newer A4 Allroad (with snows), I would say the tracking and steering response has been comparable. I suspect as these tires wear, the performance will diminish of course, and I may or may not get dedicated snows for next winter depending on how it goes this season.
TL/DR - they are decent enough for winter (so far)
