Hi there,

Hope everyone is having a blessed day.

Can someone explain to me what are some specifics to look for when buying takeoff with / without tires?

- Safety
- How to check for cracks
- Common tactics used by takeoff sellers
- TPMS considerations
- Avoiding knockoffs

I have a tire depth gauge

Hi there,

Always a blessed day...

My take offs were 2 yrs old when I bought them for winter wheels. A quick visual will show if they were used harshly. Definitely want to check for tpms.

I think Ford changed the TPMS around 2023/2024, so what year it came off of matters now. 315MHz on older models and 413MHz on newer models.

I got one takeoff with the little factory square sticker still on it. Very nice.
Good takeoffs out there. Use reputable reseller maybe.

My only tip would be to get a look at the beads for bends and the barrel in middle of wheel for bends.
Having seen and fixed or replaced a few bent rims. Minor bends can be banged out but its not recommended for alloy, can crack. Steel is considered Ok, bends, I believe. So if you see rock rash and hammer strikes, or torch discoloration maybe skip that one.
Curb rash looks different than rock rash on bottom bead not side of bead.
Also check the valve stem area for damage.
I think the Ford OEM part numbers are them somewhere.
Make sure you get good pics from all angles.
Refurbished are more expensive and usually painted, not ideal but could work.
If off roading Id recommend not getting 20's get 17 or 18"
Formula: Wheel diameter <= 1/2 tire diameter..
Good luck
