There seems to be something where your truck is just not getting the range. With the extended tank - you should get >1000 km (if I did the math correctly - 650 miles is 1050ish km) on a tank of fuel using the onboard range meter. During the warmer months that I have had the truck - I was easily at or over the 650 mile range.

You might have problems with air or spark. If the spark plugs are gapped to wide or too narrow can really kill economy as well. .028-.031 in. (0.7 - 0.8 mm) is what Ford recommends, but who knows if the machine gapped them correctly at the factory. I replaced plugs once to where they were 'gapped properly' to only be out by .010 in - which would have put everything out of whack.

Since the 3 things that create combustion are fuel, air, spark - air and spark are the top suspects for causing the odd fuel economy.
Thanks a lot for sharing that knowledge. I’m gonna have the spark plugs checked out with the air filter this week. I’ll let you guys know if that was the problem.

What engine do you have and how many km’s/miles do you get per tank??

When my 2018 XLT with the 3.3 V6 was brand new I would get around 1000-1200 km’s(620-745 miles) per tank. After about a year and onwards I would get 900-1000km’s/tank.

I’m just under 2600km’s on my new 2021 XLT that has the 2.7 EcoBoost and I haven’t been able to get over 900km’s/tank on any of my fill ups.

The first tank I didn’t really drive it in a way that was mindful of how much gas I was burning and I think I got less than 800km’s on that tank.
But the 2-3 tanks after that I’ve been trying really hard to drive in the most fuel efficient manner to see how many km’s I could get from a single tank. The current tank will be lucky to make it past 900km’s.

- For all fill ups I waited until the dash said 0 km’s to empty then I would fill it to the tits and would stop recording the mileage once it said 0 again.
- I ALWAYS drive in ECO Mode and I always turn off Auto Start/Stop.
- I’ve only used regular gas. The few times I used the expensive gas on my 2018 I got less than 50-60 extra km’s out of the tank so not worth it to me. Especially since I don’t plan to keep the truck after the lease.

I haven’t had the time to do any kind of review but after about a month of having my new 2021 F150 I haven’t had any mechanical or technical issues.
The Navigation stopped working once and the fuel efficiency is dog sh*t but other than that, this truck has been very solid.

And not sure if I mentioned this; if you’re in Canada and your dealer tries to give you the Bison brand tonneau cover tell them to stick in their butt. It’s really bad.

I haven’t done any mods. Just removed the antenna, added 5% tints all around and installed a dash cam. I think it’s very stupid that factory-installed dash cams are available on other Ford vehicles like the mustang but not the f150.

Last trip was 800 km and still had a 1/4 tank left so I'm guessing 1200 km on a full tank

Me neither. It’s exactly what mine is rated for (3.73 axle and 9.75” gears w/ 2.7L Payload Package)

It doesn’t sound bad. But based on those numbers I should be getting 1046-1360 km’s per tank(136L) but for some reason I’m only getting 750 km’s per tank.

I reset my trip meter every time I fill up and see what it’s at when I get the “0 km to empty” warning. Hasn’t gone past 750 in the past 5+ fill ups

Hmm, at 12L/100km, I’m calculating about 800km on the smaller tank. Obviously, you won’t use all the fuel that’s in there, so 750 sounds right to me consistent with your fuel consumption. Forgive me if you’ve posted it already, but are you sure you have the big tank? Check window sticker or if you could report how many liters you’re filling it with? There are too many variables in tank range, the only real way to know fuel consumption is to use that unit of measurement. I’ll be interested to see the manual calculation if you’re able to do that, as occasionally the computer is off a bit. Mine usually overestimates by 2-3% which I feel is reasonable.

When I fill it from completely empty it will take 134-135L. And I do run the tanks down to empty mostly to see how many km’s I’m getting per tank. I know it’s not really good to do that to any vehicle but I don’t plan to keep this one for more than a couple years.

The only time I really look at DTE is if I am on a trip and if I should fill up before running out of fuel before the next town. There are so may things that change this reading/calculation it is only an estimate. If the needle is between half and quarter...fill the dam thing up, it is not rocket science. IMO, if you run your tank that low, you are asking for trouble to start with. Do manual calculations for L/100 and go from there.

Are the following MPGs outlandish? Truck was saying around 14 for all of them, but hand calculations say otherwise. I pretty much removed the fuel economy from my screen as it is useless.

E10 91 US (95 EURO), 95% city driving. Of course the little highway driving I had was 80mph+ on the autobahn. Cold weather, 15-20min trips, still <1,000 miles. Could break in have anything to do with this? I notice Eco mode drastically improves my on the screen MPG by 2-3 over Normal. City driving is limited at 50km, so keeping it around there with the sensitive throttle in Normal is hard.

Something I noticed today was that my trip 1 showed 15.7 L/100 KM but when I entered the fuel and mileage into my vehicle expense tracking software it showed 19.4L/100 KM. It has been cold here the last couple of weeks and I have been letting the truck warm up for about 5 minutes. I am wondering if the L/100 KM or MPG is only calculated when the truck is in gear and not when it is just running. My 2011 F 150 calculated the L/100 KM when ever the truck was running and matched my software to with in a 1/4 of a L.

I noticed that if I let it warms up longer, it lowers the fuel mileage.

I picked up my 2.7 a couple weeks ago and am currently about a quarter through my 2nd tank of 87 octane. Numbers are… not impressive to say the least.
  • Overall L/100 reading 15.1 on pick up day, 70 km on odometer
  • Filled up at 1/4 tank, 90L of 87 octane, overall L/100 had improved to 13.1, 685km on odometer - (90/615)*100 = 14.6 L/100. Not horrendous.
  • Reset trip 1 and currently reading 11.9 L/100 with 175km travelled and 785 EDR. Using tonesto7 widget, fuel tank is at 78%. If FordPass/fuel gauge is to be believed, [(0.22*136L)/175]*100 = 17.1 L/100. I can deal with 0.5-1.5 variance between truck gauge and calculated, but 5.2 is ridiculous.
  • I’ve been noticing on trips of 30km travelling about 93km/h, using the widget, the tank reading is going down by 5% each time. [(0.05*136L)/30]*100 = 22.7 L/100:oops:
I’ll be interested to see what the calculations look like at the end of this tank. I’m seriously hoping this is a glitch, or at the absolute least the truck is just in its break in period. I know there are potential factors like winter temps, winter fuel, winter tires, and the engine is so new, but I’m not having a lot of confidence in my choice of the 2.7 right now. If these numbers are true and I knew I would be eating through fuel this quickly, I would have just gotten the 3.5 for the extra 75hp & 100lb/ft.

The saddest part is hearing about a few guys with the 5 L getting about the same amount of mileage per tank. The 2.7 L is absolute garbage. Maybe that’s why they make it mandatory for certain trims like any sport model because they know that’s the only way they’ll get people to take this engine. Sneaky snakes

I picked up my 2022 XL with the 2.7 about three weeks ago and I’m keeping an eye on MPG too. Yes, it’s a full size truck and I shouldn’t expect fuel economy to be the truck’s strong suit….I get it. However, so far I’m not getting anywhere close to the advertised EPA city mileage, despite the fact that I live in a semi-rural area and a decent amount of my driving is not stop and go. We will see if it improves over time. Only 1,400 miles on the engine so far so perhaps I just need to see how things shake out when the weather warms up.

I took a trip about 2 weeks ago with a few friends on a skiing adventure. I brought my truck and the other person driving has a 2018 XLT w/ 5.0. The trip there temps were between 3 and -10 F. I got 17.4 MPG with the 2.7 and his got 16.6. The conditions were not terribly bad with the exception of the cold. So the 2.7 may really dislike cold and winter gas.

On the way back we experienced quite strong winds and bitter cold. I got 15.2 for the return trip and he had a really bad time with 12.1. Other than the generational difference between the 2, I have the OEM Goodyear AT tires and he has much less aggressive Wranglers on his truck.

He does get 21-22 during the summer when going about daily life. He did say he had another friend with a 2019 2.7 and one trip they took together last summer he got 23 and his buddy w/ the 2.7 got 27.
