About every third time or so I get into my truck and start it up my sync screen will freeze up. Sometimes it’s just a blank black screen, sometimes the ford logo splash screen will freeze, and I’ve also had it freeze on the backup camera. The two button reset seems to fix it but it’s getting kind of annoying. Seems to have started after the 4.2.2 update and 4.2.3 didn’t seem to help any. Anyone else having these issues?

Many people including myself have reported different issues with these new string of updates. I can't say I have seen anyone complain about what you're experiencing, though.

ok so this soulution may sound weird but it may be worth a try. try charging your 12v battery. make sure you connect the leads correctly by connecting the negitive to a body ground and not directly to the battery terminal this is to make sure the bms can record the current going into the battery.

last week I was having a booting and freezing issue and its known that if you make lots of short trips (less than 30 minutes or so) that the charging system may not charge the battery fully. these trucks take a ton of power just to run the electronics (~20A) and when the battery soc starts to get low funky things will start to happen. I have a battery tester and on my truck it was showing around 40% soc and to recharge. after charging its been fine with no odd issues. btw a little info on the charging system the battery only gets charged to 80 to 85% of a full charge unless that setting has been changed in the bms.

soc = state of charge
bms = battery managment system

edit: a couple things i notice when my battery starts geting low is the trans starts shifting harder when its cold and the instrument cluster doesnt stay on the page i last had it at.

@RcFlyer330 That’s an odd one but would make sense. Most of the time when it happens is the first start of the day or a short trip somewhere. I’ve also been getting the deep sleep mode messages in the ford pass app. I was getting those on my wife’s expedition and they ended up replacing the battery. I’m outside the 36,000 mile warranty now so I’d probably be paying for a new battery. Just hoping to get thru another 4-6 months and I’m trading this thing off for something else anyway. I’ll have enough miles on it and will be needing to get something new to stay in compliance with my work vehicle program. I appreciate the tip.

I've started having this exact same issue, so do we think it's related to SOC of the 12v system?

I'm not sure about the SOC if that is it or not. Someone else will have to give some feedback on that. I took matters into my own hands and ditched the F150 and bought a GMC Sierra. So far that has worked out very well. Ford is really starting to piss me off cause now i'm having issues with the sync system in my wife's expedition. Ford released SYNC 3.4.22251 and it has messed all kinds of stuff up. I'm not the only one...if you google that sync update F150, Bronco, Expedition basically any thing running SYNC 3 that received that update has memory allocation issues where some features do not work and user settings will not be saved. Had it at the dealership yesterday and they weren't able to correct anything. They are working to try and find a fix but we shall see. I know they all have their issues but Ford has left a very sour taste in my mouth from the ownership experience of my last couple of F150's. We've had two Expeditions and they have both been pretty good other than recent software related issues but they don't produce nearly as many Expeditions as they do F150. Anyway end of rant and hope that you and others get the freezing sync issue resolved.

I am having the same issue as well; I recently did all my own updates using FDRS and now sitting at Ver: 23031 Rev: 713 with NO OTA updates since then. I have installed a new battery, and it is fully charged so I do not think it is related to the battery SOC.

Similar boat, replaced the oem battery not long ago with a yellow top and did FDRS updates. I’m planning to start running a battery tender just to see if it makes any diff.

Edit: I'm on the same sync version as well, have you also tried a master reset with no change in the issue? I've done two so far, maybe it goes a few more cycles w/o locking up, but it's not worth the PITA.

No, I have not done a master reset, can't say I know how. I think I read the steps in another thread, but it did not sound like it was something to do unless absolutely necessary.
It is not a huge issue to just reboot the screen, just annoying that it is happening at all.

Gotcha, yeah not a master reset like Module Update Repair on the APIM or something like that, just master reset from the Settings menu, it blows away your presets and configured devices, like phones, not super painful...but I don't think it helped much tbh. (kinda thing you would also do before you sold it)

Quick update, I went ahead and bit the bullet and bought a 2 day pass for FDRS to check for more recent updates. There were a few updates, including an APIM update, so I'm now on Ver. 23159 Rev. 915. It does seem like Sync is a bit smoother, I'll update the thread if I see any freeze reduction.

I have this happen periodically, as well, only since my 4.2.4 audio and video glitches started. I don’t think it’s SoC related, as it happens even right after a lengthy drive when the system should be at its highest charge state. A master reset didn’t resolve it, but did resolve most of the audio and all of the video glitches.

Gotcha, if it was just periodically for this truck, I bet I could just deal with it, but it was getting to where it was every drive or every other drive, with quite the consistency.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

Ok, so I have to ask. Is this "Ford" account for real. I have even replied to one in the past with "No" results. You mean to tell me that someone from Ford is monitoring these forums, getting VIN's and then doing "anything" about it?
If anyone has ever been contacted from this Ford account and received results, please let me know. Thanks!
