Sync 4 update?

Anyone else have the issue with the Navigation not working at all? The maps won’t even pull up. I believe I’ve got the latest update. However last September an OTA update failed and since then my Navigation stopped completely, no maps at all.

Called Ford, they are unable to remote view the Sync system. They asked if the FordPass app worked, and yes it does. In the shop today per Ford to figure out why. (They had it once in Nov already.) Was already told by the Service Advisor that Ford would send and OTA to fix before I even dropped it off. Can’t receive OTA if the system that sends those doesn’t recognize that I have Sync to begin with. Can’t use Blue Cruise either without Navigation.

Last one I got was in Dec. and had to do with air flow.

Hi all.

I have the latest update as well and have some bad glitching and pixelating on the startup and shutdown splash screens and AA as well as Carplay. AA and carplay will launch all pixelated and then freeze. The rest of the Sync system will work fine. Just got this thing last Friday and didn't get it all up and running and notice it until I got home of course. Dealer is going to look at it next week but was wondering if anyone has seen issues like this before? This doesn't matter if its a wireless connection or through the USB and I have tried hard and soft resets as well as disconnecting the battery. Since I bought this certified truck and it was already updated when I got it I have no clue how it worked before then.

That's crazy.
So you confirmed that you are updated to 24xxx (can't remember the last 3 digits, but it's the only 2024 build released for our trucks)

Might be a bad APIM. It wouldn't be the first or last time it happens.

I have the same in my 22. 24127 rev1270. Was thinking possibly bad apim as well. The dealer is going to try and reinstall, when I told him what was going on he chuckled like it wasn't new to him so hopefully it's as simple as a reflash. Was just more curious if anyone had ever seen the screen act like that. Just kind of weird that it's only in the splash screens and Android auto or car play. Rest of the system and factory nav work perfectly fine.

Yup. Only the splash screens startup and shut down are pixelated and freeze, as well when android auto or car play are hooked up. Every other screen, camera, nav, music...etc are perfectly fine and the touch screen responds fine. Funny thing with AA or CP is that even though the screen is froze I can still use google assistant but holding down the talk button and give it commands. And when I use my youtube music it comes up as it being used under AA instead of bluetooth and I can cycle through songs still. Just the video steam from the phone to the unit is whacked. Doesn't matter what phone or brand I use its the same.

I get in tomorrow now instead of next week. Will update what they find.

So after a few trips to the dealer there is still no solution. Wasn't the screen of course (not sure what it would be when everything else works fine) and Ford Engineering seems convinced its not the APIM even though they won't just try and change it. So I posted a video below showing was going on. It shows how AA looks and how glitchy and pixelated it is. I also show restart of the system and how the splash screen is pixelated and freezes and the shutdown screen at the end.

Other than the APIM is there any other module that could cause this? It also seems to me since its only evident on animations or streaming (AA) that there could be some sort of decoder\video processor in a module that is messed up but not showing an error?

1 final observation is that after it has been on and frozen for while (10-20 min) the AA or something in sync resets, AA restarts and all is golden.

The dealer tried and I tried as well factory rest, reset through FDRS, diagnosis through FDRS, they pulled the data dump through FDRS and also tried setting up as new in FDRS and nothing has changed.

Is there a way to force reload the latest software onto the module through FDRS even though its up to date? I know its up to date since I have BC 1.4 working (thanks rugedraw!) Its just this issue I am dealing with.

Take a look an let me know your thoughts and if anyone has seen this.

That looks to me like it is screen driver chip/s problem and not a software problem. I have seen this before, when I was working, and it has been the actual screen gone bad. If that was a PC monitor, I would change it out and see if the problem go away.

Hi Kanuck,

That's exactly what the dealer originally did, put in a brand new screen and nothing changed. So that's why everyone is at a loss.

It's weird because your truck is not reporting any codes that have anything to do with this. Maybe @Jesse-Infotainment has some insight? He might not see this tag, so if he doesn't respond here, message him with the VIN to see if he can provide some guidance.
