Can anyone share their experiences on how CarPlay is working with Sync 4.
Have been driving my wife's 2020 Explorer fore the last 3 weeks and the CarPlay connection is hit and miss. Really hope that they have sorted this out with Sync 4

I haven't had a single issue yet and have now had it with the iPhone 12 & 13 on iOS 14 & 15.

No issues with it connecting and staying connected. Also have used it with iPhone 12 and 13 Pros.

Mine has worked almost perfectly since I got it. The only time it hiccuped was because my iPhone X wasn't updated and that only affected FordPass.

Great to hear. I was getting concerned give how wonky the Explorer is with Sync 3

Mine has been about perfect on my iPhone 11 Pro Max and 13 Pro Max. I had a couple times where it didn't start CarPlay for whatever reason, but doing the soft restart button combo to restart the head unit corrected it, so no big issue. Once connected I have never had it disconnect.

My iPhone Pro 11 Max connects everytime without a hitch. The only issue I noticed is that my song or podcast info doesn't load on the screen at random times. It says no data available but connects and plays my tunes. So far way better than sync 3. The same phone had multiple issues connecting to Sync 3 system.

So I just picked up my truck yesterday and for the most part Carplay is working well. The only issue I have is that Amazon music will not load no matter what I do. I tried deleting and re-installing the app. We'll see how it goes on the way home from work.

To be clear, the Amazon music app is TRASH. It's not an issue with Sync...

Open the app on the truck (nothing happens), open the app on your phone (nothing happens), close the app on your phone should close the app on your truck, re-open the app on your phone (or truck) and it should work. Ive noticed if I open the app, close the app, and open the app on my phone, then open the truck's app it works 80% of the time. Also 'Car-Mode' is worthless and thus the trucks app is as well; you can exit it on the top left of the app on your phone.

Ok I will give that a try, thanks for the tip. I am not defending the Amazon app at all but I also never had issues in my '20 F150 when the phone was plugged in on carplay or with our Honda Odyssey. So I'm not sure if its something to do with the wireless part of things or not.

I went on this link AppLink Catalog | My Ford Vehicle | www.ford.com I went to chat and talked to an agent. she said they log feedback about software. My complaints to her where as follows

1: removing waze from the applink
2: requiring a subscription to use navigation or its pretty much useless
3: give us a black theme like older versions of sync 3 had
4: let us hide the IODs on the side
5: allow car play to utilize the whole screen

Maybe if more people lodge complaints they will make some changes. I seen a video of an F150 lightning testing with carplay, it was using the full screen so maybe we are on the verge of an update that will allow this.

Had my 2021 for 2 weeks. Iphone 12 pro. Phone and system started and has worked seamlessly, plugged in or not. Until yesterday, then no CarPay. Tried several things including phone reboot, turn the system audio off and back on. Saw on here the reboot with the volume control and the seek control knob. Was heading out to the truck to do this, tried one more time to connect and bingo. It was working again. I think it may have been my phone.

My past experience is with a 2017 Honda Pilot with Carplay. Similar things would happen, but way more often. I think the Carplay app is a bit sketchy and glitchy at times because what I would deal with in the Honda, is eerily similar to what just happened. I may have done something with the phone and the system pulling in all the call features, but I don't know. Carplay on this truck seems to work better than the honda by a long shot, other than this hiccup.

Now if I could figure out what the No circle slash over GPS means..

in 3,000+ miles I had a single issue where for some reason Car play was working, I could see Googlemaps and stuff but my Spotify wasnt working for some weird reason kept sending me to XM radio which was annoying as heck. It fixed itself after I turned the truck off for a couple minutes and back on.

Besides that, no complains at all.
