Has anybody done this? If so, is it pretty straightforward? 23 platinum with factory power running boards. Would like to swap them for Amp boards due to them dropping lower.
I recall seeing somewhere these are not a simple retrofit to a non power step equipped truck. I have a 2023 PB SCREW XLT. Does anybody know if these retrofit painlessly?

Um... the word retrofit and painless don't belong in the same sentence when referencing these unfortunately, or just depends on your level of painless/skill. I thought it was pretty dang simple all things considered, but I'm probably far from the norm, much less hack & splice like most of the aftermarket options.

Well now that we’ve got the word games and semantics out of the way, thank you for the link. It would be nice if there was a write up, rather than one run-on sentence. That said, the referenced thread doesn’t really help. Neither does saying it’s complicated but “im the man so it wasn’t for me”.
There was a thread on the other f150 forum where a user paired the 15-20 oem boards with some amp research wiring harnesses and got it to work perfectly. That was back in 2017 I’m curious if this can be done with the magna’s on the 14th gen non-power-equipped trucks. Looking for an actual answer, not whatever the above was.

I think it would be a bit of a challenge with the OEM one’s retrofitting to a truck without power boards but I’m no expert. You would need to do some adjustments in the PCM or with Forscan. Your best bet would be the Amps they are very easy but you won’t get the button and extended length.

Can it be done? Yes. Is it easy? Not really. If you want simple plug and play, AMP would be the way to go. If you want to get more crafty and want the cool factory PRB features and integrations, it can be done to add all oem components. You should in theory be able to buy the AMP controller and harness kit for a 21+ and use it to run any 15 and newer OEM boards, since they are all the same design essentially.
