I have a 2014 F-150 5.0 engine Supercab equipped with trailer package and Range E tires and use the truck a few times a summer to tow a 4500 lb. dry (probably 6000 lb. with water and cargo) camper. Shortly after I purchased the truck in 2014, I found that its Passenger P-rated tires were just too "squishy" (and in my view led to too much "white-knuckling") for towing my trailer and swapped them out for Range E tires -- best towing move I ever made with the heavier tires, now tows like a dream.

With the age of my truck and its current miles, in another year I may decide to get a different F-150, and again I'll equip it with Range E tires. However, with the astronomical price of new vehicles now, I may want to get a cheaper Regular Cab F-150 (with an approximate truck bed length of 6 rather than 8 feet) rather than a Supercab.

Just wondering, will the shorter wheelbase of the Regular Cab present any handling issues towing my 6000 lb. camper (as compared with a slightly longer wheelbase of a Supercab)?

Dan - I would go with the LONGEST wheelbase you can afford. Towing stability and driving comfort increases greatly when you spread the weight over a longer distance.

PowerboostSoCal nailed it. I would also add that cost may not be as crazy of a difference as you think. Because if you bought a regular cab you're looking at an XL only.

Depending on what you would be going for, I picked up a two-wheel drive SuperCrew 101A XL 5.0 with elocker 2024 leftover for under 42K before taxes. Was just over 44,000 out the door. Had running boards, mud flaps and they even threw in a spray in. It has 1,977 lbs of payload and over 9k towing rating conventional. It's worth noting all trucks now 2024 model year and newer have the hitch standard with good towing ratings. Without the trailer tow package you don't get the trailer brake controller but that can be added. That is what I plan to do.

Dealers know people are going to hop up a regular cab in most situations so the wiggle room is probably not as good price wise in the real world.

Since you are a year or so out consider ordering one from Granger in Iowa..4% Below invoice with very low dealer fees PLUS getting exactly what you want is a powerful incentive..A extended warranty just above dealer cost lowers the price OTD a tremendous amount compared to anyone at least in Florida. A Super cab gives you more flexibility in options and for possible passengers and interior cargo capabilities. Optioned right towing capacity will be better AND safer with the Super cab..
