The discussion on whether the oil pressure gauge shows an engine off pressure or not, in light of the known pressure switch driving it, illustrates why I do not trust the computer driven dashboard. It shows you what the programmer wants you to know. After I installed the voltmeter and began watching the actual system voltage I concluded: Ford's programming of system voltage makes no sense and the discussion of percentage battery charge tells you almost nothing useful. :)

Key off is 0 psi

The oil pressure sensor on the Powerboost/Ecoboost is the same since 2017.
It's not a pressure reading sensor, but rather a on/off yes/no open/close sensor set for 7psi
The sensor in the PowerBoost is only used in ford and Lincoln vehicles 2021 and up.

Why do you say that?
Although the Gen14 3.5 Ecoboost is technically the Gen3 3.5 Ecoboost, it is very similar to the Gen2 3.5 Ecoboost (2017-2020) and has the same oil pressure sensor design.

Are you just saying that the part# changed?

Same part for 2018 3.5 Ecoboost
2021 3.5 Ecoboost
2021 Powerboost

im not at home at the moment, but the part number listed, when viewed other vehicles worked on, were no older than 2021.

** Edit**
I was able to access it though my phone

I completely believe you.
Online parts sites are notorious for conflicting information from one site to the next.

And it's quite possible that as a part goes through its inventory lifespan, it can get new part#'s for lots of reasons.

This oil pressure sensor has a lot of part # revisions on just one retail site, it appears

That pressure sensor is so-o-o 20th century...

The part number indicates it was first used in 2016

GC3Z-9278-B Switch G = 2016 model year design, just as you find in a VIN number M=2021 N=2022 P=2023

GC3Z-9278-B C3 = light truck engine parts

GC3Z-9278-B Z = service parts or replacement parts, many time the part in box will be marked with the actual engineering part letter.

GC3Z-9278-B 9278 = the casual part number you'll see these numbers in the service manual, and if you went to a parts counter and asked for a 9278 switch for 20xx F-150 a good parts man will need no further information to pull this part.

GC3Z-9278-B B = is the suffix number this can indicate, an engineering revision number, a color or finish on a part and or right or left side

The sensor debate continues I see.
It's a 3 wire sensor on some Gen 13 and all Gen 14. Still makes me think it is a legit sensor and not just an on/off. Use Forscan on your older truck and I bet it won't show an oil pressure reading at all, just good/bad.

So this thread had me looking at my oil pressure gauge on the dash of my PowerBoost. It appears to show 2 readings, low in electric, and higher in ICE, but there was no in between or fluctuations no matter how I drove it.

If you read the blurb on the switch above... it is called a "switch." Whether its a 2 wire or 3 wire, its still a switch not a transducer...

You can use PID to monitor a value that moves. Gauge itself is a dummy gauge like all modern vehicles. Debate here on if there is a real sensor or if the value is calculated. Curiosity has me wanting to test it but I have to find it first.

This is the oil pressure PID for the 2017-2022 3.5 Ecoboost
(I'm not sure if Ford changed anything on the 2023)

Credit goes to a forum member who went through the trouble of sniffing Forscan for the OBD traffic. I'm forever grateful to that good fella :)

Can this be found on the ODBmx1+ and where? I'd like to look for it and try it with my 5.0

I haven't seen the oil pressure PID in any mobile apps. I've tried them all for the last 6 years.
So you have to create the PID yourself if the app allows you to. (OBDlink does)

Most of the tuners have it imbedded.
(I used an Ngauge for a few years)
Forscan has it imbedded.
HPTuners has it imbedded.

Gros Ventre I’m not sure I’m clear (but I am curious) on whether your digital gauge reads different. Are you saying your oil pressure (in the condition of ready / ice not running / in EV only) shows a reading different than the pics shown by Snakebitten. My dash is the same as Snakebitten. If yours is actually showing zero I wonder if they updated programming at some point. Thanks
