Bought my XL with the stock 17" steelies. Sold them and switched to the 18" OEM sport wheels and put michelin defender 275/65/R18 tires on them.

I am going cross country with my travel trailer in a few months. I need a reliable spare. I had planned on selling my 17" spare and buying the OEM 18" spare. Now I read that I can use a full size wheel in my spare slot and just buy another(5th) OEM sport wheel with a cheap 275/65/R18 tire on it. Is this accurate?

What is my best course of action here? Definitely want something reliable in case I am in the middle of nowhere at times.

Thanks all.

well, most of the trucks use standard sized steel spare rims. for example my King Ranch has 20" rims but the spare rim is an 18" steely. they use a taller tire on the spare to be the same circumference as the 20" tires.

not sure of exact tire size off top of my head. but my last ford truck was the same way.

other than wanting a matching wheel I would find one of the tire calculators online and enter the tire sizes and see what the circumference of both tires are. and truthfully the truck will drive fine as long as its close.

You can fit any stock size up there. The Tremors comes with a full size painted rim and the same tire as the other 4. I say buy the matching size 18 and load it up.

Nice. So if I buy this(same wheels I have), I could have the lug nuts swapped from the current wheel that goes bad, so I won't need extra lug nuts, right? So this is basically all I need + the same tire size I have? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1948895922...%3D|ampid:PL_CLK|clp:2047675&epid=14053818474

The stock size 275/65/18 will fit fine. I purchased a stock 18" sport wheel to replace the limited use spare. Then mounted a larger 275/70/18 Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT to match my current setup and it fits fine.
