That looks great. Two questions:
1) Do you have any photos post rust dissolver but pre paint?
2) How did you know what to mask off and cover with the tape?
Thanks

1) sorry I forgot to take pics after the rust dissolver but before paint. I will say that while the dissolver cleaned up the rust pretty good on most of the parts, the pumpkin still had a decent amount.

2) I tried to mask off any plastic parts, cables/wires, and around the brake rotors

The old rule of thumb is that it takes 5X as much money to get back a customer as it takes to retain one. Regardless of how accurate that is, I can assure you that my truck is the last new Ford vehicle I will own.

A family member damaged their Honda Ridgeline off-road and finally admitted to needing a more off-road oriented vehicle for rock hunting expeditions on old mining roads in the Southwest. Ford Ranger and new Bronco were mentioned to me as options but I told them hell no after the fit and finish issues experienced by myself and others with the F-150 and because of the poor customer service from the local Ford dealership that I have endured regarding those issues.

I recommended the 4Runner and worked out a good deal with the local Toyota dealer. incidentally, Toyota is also experiencing supply issues and they have been having a hard time keeping trucks and SUVs on the lot. What would have been a smoking deal became only a good one because the weekend after I stopped in all their 4Runner stock sold out after those supply issues were publicized. The only reason a deal was made at all was one of the sold vehicles fell through and of course it was the most expensive one. Otherwise, it would have been a wait for the next transport truck.

Long story short, I ducked underneath to check out what Toyota considers a new undercarriage to look like and it was exactly as you should expect.

Ford needs to wake up and realize that it’s not 1908 and customers don’t have to take whatever Ford throws at them.
To paraphrase Henry Ford, you can get an undercarriage in any condition you want as long as its finished in Iron Oxide.

My truck was built week of Feb 22 and I bought it end of March. When I picked it up, it was rust free.

Month and a half later with nearly 3,000 miles with a couple hundred miles of highway snow driving and also light offroad driving, the rust has started. Light rust compared to most others, but surprised it has started.

it looks like the black paint they applied is either coming off and/or wearing through.

I would imagine it’s simply the moisture persistently penetrating the light layer of paint and reacting with the steel. The paint protection, such as it was, appears done.

I checked out another Ford dealership today. They had 9 new F150s on the lot and not one had a drop of rust.

They DID have an Antimatter Blue and it's was great to finally see one in person. It was parked next to a black one and it's a good thing because at the right angles, you would swear it's "black" but sitting next to that is actually black you can really tell that it's not.

And then when the light hits that paint at the right angle, that blue just bursts out at you. Very cool!

Finally found a dealership that would clean up the rust and repaint. They claimed Ford would not pay for the work to be done and even laughed when I said I had a open case file / number with Ford..

he said “that’s Fords run-around game they like to play and they won’t be contributing financially”

regardless the dealership agreed to take care of the issue free of charge, provided me an Uber to a rental car facility and gave me $35 rental rate..

I didn’t purchase my truck from this dealership but I wish I did...

If I ever decide to buy another Ford (which at this point I doubt) it will be from them...

I will post pictures of their work tomorrow when I pick her up, as long as the work is as good of a job as I could do or better I will be happy.

I could not agree with you more. Once the new Tundra comes out in 2022 I'll be getting rid of my 2021 $70K F-150 rust bucket. This is the last ford I will ever own. It's a matter of principle. Customer service center gave me the run around for 2 months. Closed my case twice for no reason at all. Never answered nor returned calls or e:mails. Could never even get a position statement by Ford. Only influence I have is to walk away as well as steer others away. That's the way the cookie crumbles I suppose.

I also steered my daughter and her husband away from Ford this year and they ended up with a Toyota 4-Runner limited instead.

Same here. My 2015 Transit T-250 work van we purchased new now needs a new transmission and new ac unit, approx. $8,500 for a truck that now worth maybe 19k. Good By Ford.

They missed a couple small spots but overall I’m happy. I’ll fluid film now and hope for the best.

That looks 1000% better than the job my dealership did on mine. Very nice.

Todd, that rear drive train looks super! Did they happen to tell you what they used and/or what they did? Congrats on being one of the lucky ones.

Their plan changed about 3 times, he told me the product they were going to use but I’ve never heard of it. And honestly can’t remember what it was. Their process was spray rust remover, wire brush then paint.

And yes, I feel lucky I got them to take care of it.
