I picked up my Platinum on Friday. 3/3 build date, and a quick look shows no rust except for a very small area on the front of the pumpkin. Exhaust is pristine, shock mounts are good, and u-joints are good. I am very pleased. This will take 5 minutes and a squirt of paint to fix. Probably don't even have to do that since I am in Arizona, but I will anyway.

My KR just arrived at the dealer, and it’s not pretty (Feb 3 build date). It looks like it was dropped in the ocean, with visible salt residue all over the undercarriage. I get that Ford says rust on the axels and differential is cosmetic, but on the muffler and resonator? I’m not too happy.

That exhaust system is similar to mine in the rust. This is NOT surface rust. Surface rust is something we can see on the brake rotors if not driven for a while and it they get wet., that type of surface rust just wipes away, but what I, you and others have is not that type. If they don't get me new truck I will see them on court.

I’d like to know who, if any were successful in any kind of compensation (other than them simply cleaning up the diff). Money off? Extended warranties? Etc?
I was ready to walk off the lot after I found the rust on mine. They cleaned it up, but negotiated a new trifold tonneau cover and spray in liner on top of my discount due to my “displeasure”. Retail value of both was $1,500-$2K.

Nice! Wonder if they can go even lower with my A PLAN?

Spoke to the sales guy this morning about mine. He kind of shrugged his shoulders on the phone pause and said I don't know... Ford has to do something about that. I'll still take delivery tomorrow but sucks that I'll have to put in some work on a brand new truck.

The dealers are really limited in what they can do under the plan rules, so I wouldn't expect them to be able to throw you any bones. After 4 Z plan purchases, all I've been able to get is extra on the trade in so I didn't have to go back to carmax to sell the old one to them.

Mine wasn't too bad but bugged me enough to spend seven dollars on Rustoleum rust converter and 15 minutes. Before and after pics.

All - I picked up my Limited this morning. This afternoon stopped by Autozone and picked up a bottle of Rust-Oleum Rust Dissolver 32oz. Sprayed it on - went back 45 mins later with a small wire brush and WOW - the surface rust was almost 100% gone. It was easy work.

Once I complete the areas I missed, then I'm going to repaint with a chassis or flat black product that prevents rust. Mine looked like the above rust. picure. Now it almost looks like it was never there.

Update. I know why it collects surface rust so damn easy - they used a shitty ass paint. Paint looks like some water based crayon?. The rust remover will take it off their shitty paint. I prefer it to come off as it makes for easier repainting with quality paint.

Truck was delivered to the dealer today, they had 2 others as well that were off loaded, came in 5 days early (Ordered 12/8) The build for the powerboost (I guess at the worst time) January/February- Rust on Rear and exhaust, like so many others. So disappointed. Other than the rust, the workmanship, I am guessing stress from times is showing.

  1. Spry in liner, doesn't look great
  2. Tailgate work spay, all the screws are rusted and plastic shards exposed
  3. Heat padding falling down under the truck or maybe this is temporary for transport
  4. Other cosmetic stuff
  5. Didn't even get to see the inside or engine
Not how I want to spend $65K

The other trucks, non powerboost, non max tow, did not have any rust (or very little) exhaust was clean, but the exhaust for the 3.5 is larger than the 5.0. The 3.5 power boost is very busy underneath.

Tomorrow will see how to correct the issue, I like what someone said on an earlier post, if the truck had a scratch on body the dealer would fix it, no questions ask. Rust on the most important parts with zero miles...forgetaboutit...

Have to consider plan b

What? That is absolutely unacceptable. Please let us know what the dealer does. My 14 year old truck that I just sold didn’t have anything like that.

That looks very similar to mine. 2/25 build on a Lariat PB. My exhaust didn’t have quite as much rust but the rest looked almost exactly the same. I have hit it with a wire brush on my angle grinder. I am going to spray some rust resolver and hit it again with a drill based wire brush. I then have some Rustoleum auto black and some fluid film to finish it off. I have no doubt it will end up well, but no way I’d be expected to get matching touch up paint to fix this thing if it was on the exposed surface and not underneath the truck. My dealer was willing to “work on it” but I didn’t have the time nor the faith that it would be done right.

I firmly believe it was a combination of parts left exposed to elements before being treated and an awful and cheap paint for the undercarriage. There is no doubt in my mind that the undercarriage paint is simply subpar and they elected to spray it on parts that were already rusted out without cleaning them up first. I get adding 30 minutes per build is just not an acceptable solution for Ford but shipping these trucks looking like this shouldn’t have been either.

Figured I show my pics which I believe are probably the correct representation of true surface rust...unlike some of the atrocities I've see on this thread. I would not have accepted mine if it looked like some of the orange balls of fire on this thread.
