They usually don’t put a lot of paint on the axle housing. Sterling axle builds & ships to Dearborn & KC plants I would just get some rattle can & spray it, if it bothers you.

While agreeing that the amount of rust on a lot of the new F150's is completely unacceptable, the two pictures of your 16 year old Expedition are focused on parts that appear to be aluminum castings.... second two are under my 16-year-old Expedition. Notice any difference?

The early builds were run back and forth from one storage area to who knows where else. No doubt with salt on the roads, completely covering the underside. As I mentioned, my truck had something like 63 miles on it when I picked it up. I still would not expect as much rust as what some of our trucks have.
Fixable? Absolutely!
Who should fix it? No doubt Ford should cover the cost to put it back to what is expected.
Replace parts? Don't see that happening nor would I want that to happen to my new truck. The rust is not deep but excessive and should be cleaned and painted to the degree it is protected.
I’m thinking of doing the same. As you can see my rust is just surficial and not as bad as others.Hummm, not sure I would go that route. In fact I know I would not. You can create some other issues replace the pumpkin and axles.
Think I would go for rust removal and repaint.

This is what my 2020 looked like and what I would’ve expected for my 2021. Not the rust bucket crap we have that looks like they were driven through a corrosive acid puddle immediately after they came off the production line!
Picked up my Limited today (3/4). Built on 2/27, delivered to dealer on 3/2.
11 miles on the ODO, and coming from a long-in-the-tooth 2010 F150 Lariat, I absolutely love it!
Rear differential was pristine, as was the entire vehicle.
With your area not being a snow and salt type environment, I would say that would be a waste of money for you. I would get some quality high heat (engine paint) and hit those area's with a couple coats of the paint. Don't have to be pretty, you just want it well covered and you will be just fine for many many years.I’m debating on whether to get my new truck treated at Ziebart. Most all the rust was wire brushed off, but there’s still a little showing. I live in Dallas, so not an area known for rust. Should I get it treated or just chill? I have zero experience with Ziebart - not concerned about the $, but wouldn’t want them to screw something up.
You can see by the brake bolt the steel looks bare with no paint, the same place that is showing rust on many of the trucks. You'd think they could put a little better paint system on these components so they wouldn't rust so quickly.
