I conceded - that I'm at the mercy of the dealship if my comes in with rust. It's why I'm building a rapport with my local dealership. I will be going there anyway in the future - they been great so far.
My bet is, if you have rust and at delivery point it out to them, they will correct it to your satisfaction. It is such a minimum cost to it, that it would be stupid not to for customer satisfaction for such an expensive vehicle.

If some of the people with very recent issues regarding axle rust can post pics, that would be great. I’m helping our friend Phoebe Howard from the Detroit Free Press, and she’s interested in more content for an article she’ll be publishing regarding this very issue.
You can share my pictures too. My truck was built in Dearborn on Jan 13, arrived in California on Feb 5. Only 5 miles on the odometer when I picked it up. I find it hard to believe that Ford would not know or see these rusty axles going down the assembly line.

I've taken the truck to 2 dealers (selling dealer and local dealer). Both said that it is surface rust and will not be fixed by Ford. I also have a case number with Ford corporate, with no further follow-up from them yet. I would like to know what is Ford's official position on how much rust is allowable on brand new vehicles? If we can see this defect, what other hidden defects are lurking on our brand new trucks?

Read the article - on some of the rust - surface rust would be an understatement

Definitely! Corrosion with pitting isn't considered a light surface rust. It's corrosion that's only going to get worse. Fords response was lousy!

My position is NO rust is permissible at delivery. If it is a rust stain (surface film from crappy wet/ gravel roads) and washes off that might be permissible with touch up. It should be addressed by dealer before delivery to customer and noted as a defect upon delivery from Ford. I have told my dealer to inspect, take pictures and provide a documented action plan before I take delivery. Rust occurs on ferrous metal naturally with the presence of moisture and will propagate over time. As can be seen from all the pictures to date there is poor/incomplete surface treatment (primer/paint) on the critical Ferrous metal surfaces. Not sure what is meant by surface rust, of course it all starts with surface rust and without treatment will continue.

i'll just say again what i said pages ago....if we all tweet at Ford Motor Company, the CEO, and @RAM and a few other competitors (and let their opportunistic PR respond back with pics of their trucks without rust), we'll get a better response.

This isn't the attention or reputation Ford wants at launch of their brand halo vehicle.

“While some F-150 underbody steel components may show signs of surface rust, this will have no impact on part performance or life,” said Ford’s Dawn McKenzie.

That about sums it up. Your rust is a ‘gift with purchase’ on your new $50-75K Ford truck. That b.s. may have worked thirty years ago when it was just Bubbas buying work trucks, but that won’t fly with all the new “sold my BMW <insert fave luxury brand here> to buy a decked out pickup” crowd.

Will be interesting to see if this gets any further traction. ?

I agree 100% but I don't tweet or do any social media besides this forum. IMHO, I would suggest Dawn consults with the Engineering Organization for clarity, it obvious she isn't an Engineer. In addition, she needs to take a leadership course 101 to understand how valuable the Ford "Brand" is to future business.

Add me to the rust bucket list. Had I seen this rust I would not have purchased the truck.

Is this rusting issue happening at both the Kansas City, and Dearborn plant or is it isolated to just one?
